Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Some, albeit limited, hosting experience so far, with a bit of surfing done. Mainly, I am trying to be as good a guest as I can. Also, I log in regularly, trying to answer every message I get, except, obviously, the send-to-all info and invitations from admins. I'll be happy to give my fellow Couchsurfers all the info they might need on any place I'm acquainted with, including Switzerland and the rest of the world.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies - A lot of genres, some all-time favorites would be: Apocalypse Now, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, Trainspotting, Fight Club, Amores Perros, The Departed, Sin City, Hotel Rwanda, Mulholland Drive, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Pianist and many others.
Music - Whenever I make lists of favorite artists or genres I'm into, I end up being unhappy about them. I do listen to a lot of different things. The amount of listenable stuff out there is (almost) as mind-bogglingly huge as the amount of crappy stuff. I like rock, soul, hiphop, funk, electronica, jazz, IDM, tropicalia, folk, anti-folk, grime, punk, post-punk, jangle pop, indie, grunge, americana, new wave, no wave, first-wave ska, second-wave ska, third-wave ska, roots reggae, dub, indie, baroque pop, grunge, psychedelia, acid rock, folk rock, me-and-my-guitar, trip-hop, r'n'b, rock'n'roll, art rock, p-funk, g-funk, proto punk, retro rock, post-rock, krautrock, experimental rock, neo soul, northern soul, blue-eyed soul, noise pop, noise rock, ambient, alt country, blues, madchester, britpop, britrock, prog, free jazz, world music, power pop, avant-garde, merseybeat, acid jazz, neo-folk, college rock, singer-songwriter and british invasion to a certain extent if the musicians involved know what they're doing. I like Syd Barrett, I like John Lennon, I like Tom Waits, I like Tom Jenkinson, I like Johnny Greenwood, I like Johnny Marr. I don't like Neil Young.
Books - I read both fiction and non-fiction or popular science stuff. Some of my favorites would be "The Beach" by Alex Garland, "Catch-22" by Joseph Heller, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams, "I Married a Communist" by Philip Roth, "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe, "Der Prozess" by Franz Kafka and many others.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 25-plus years of traveling as a kid, a teenager, a lone young adult, a friend of other people traveling with me, a friend of one other person traveling with me, the boyfriend of the girl traveling with me or a casual acquaintance of the person next to me...the one thing that keeps coming to mind is stepping out onto a Brazilian beach with absolutely no one in sight and dozens of miles of coconut-palm-fringed beach all to myself.
Also: Negotiating with Sicilian taxi drivers, seeing Manhattan's skyline for the first time, ziplining in Costa Rica, crossing the Adriatic by ship, and getting what I considered a genuine impression of what it's like to actually live in a country in Spain and the UK.
