About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore and to write.

ABOUT ME

I'm a journalist/producer for the local ABC Radio station in Melbourne, Australia where I look after the website and report on arty events, amongst other things. I moved here in July 2008 after living in regional Western Australia for 18 months reporting on sheep shows and events involving utes. Prior to that I have traveled and lived throughout eastern Australia. I was born on a small island at the bottom of the world called Tasmania. It's nice there, you should visit some time...

PHILOSOPHY

If you can't make it good, make it funny. If you can't make it funny, make it short...

Oh - and be nice to people while you're at it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted in Western Australia and Melbourne... and now I want to surf!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met some great people through having them arrive at my front door.

Interests

Movies, music and books... oh look there's another section for that...

Music, Movies, and Books

My record collection ranges from Jazz to Punk to Pop to Hip-Hop to Classical... Charlie Parker, The Jam, Devo, Michael Jackson, The Happy Mondays, Nick Cave, Bach and Amon Tobin are all in there somewhere...

I've been making electro since I was a kid with an Atari, and still do the (very) occasional gig. I also play saxophone, although not as well as I used to.

As far as films and theatre go I love Alfred Hitchcock, Tim Burton, David Lynch, Harold Pinter, Samuel Beckett, Hal Hartley, Stanley Kubrick and other predictable choices for a former English Literature major.

Also predictably, I'm not that into fiction anymore, but I'm trying to challenge myself on that. My bookshelf is filled with non-fiction works about the media, modern politics and other random subjects.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once, on a walk through a property in North Eastern New South Wales I accidently strolled into a swarm of butterflies.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think this will very much depend on who you are! I'm in my early thirties but still learning lots...
