About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Settled in Sydney, working for a few years before my next travelling trip...

ABOUT ME

It's sometimes hard what to write about me; here goes...

Since uni I was lived in Brighton for 8 years and loved it. I've got many good friends there (many who were in uni at the same time). All except for the last year I've been living with a mix of the same friends from student halls, and also new people we've met along the way.

When in Brighton I head down to my old house (the Party house) weekly to see what they're up to...

I am in fact gay, but you wouldn't know it! Most of my Brighton friends were in fact straight but living in Sydney has sorted that out a bit!! I do like checking out the scene from time to time; especially if I go to a new place.

Other than that I'm just a nice guy who likes having fun and making good friends.

PHILOSOPHY

Hmm a difficult one to answer in a few sentences.

I like enjoying life but also looking after myself at the same time. My friends are most important, and having good times with them is what I do best. When I'm not out or with friends I like to get into a good project, perhaps something photo related, or to make the house nicer, some electronics project that involves lots of coloured lights and looks cool etc.

I love seeing and experiencing as many new things as possible, including meeting new people, hence why I have really been looking forward to the travelling I've had planned for a while.

Recently I've not been very career focused, perhaps because I'm not 100% keen on the work I have been doing, but have settled into a permanent job in Australia which is going well.

So all in all, as long as I am hanging out with like minded people, having a good time, it's all good. Once I find something I really enjoy as a career, it's even better.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am unable to put people up myself just yet - but with a recent change of my living arrangements this should be possible. I should be settling here for the next few years.

Watch this space....

When (or should I say if) I'm back in the wonderful city of Brighton in the UK then hosting may also be possible. I love introducing people to my friends back in the UK and if they are about at the time.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I can make tea!

Cooking isn't my strong point - but not too bad - I'm expert at eating healthily on the cheap if you're on a budget, or can find something good out at town. I can cook a good brekkie though.

Other than that, I guess I'll just treat you like any of my friends staying over, but with a bit more help and info on the area if it's new to you.

When it comes to staying at others places, I've done a bit of sofa sleeping before and know to wash up, so it's all good....

Interests

I'm a keen photographer, love keeping fit and doing stuff such as cycling, hiking and kayaking and am trying to do as much as possible while away. The more boring stuff is gadgets and computers, electronics, socialising and chilling out, and cats!

I like a good club from time to time, but am also a big cafe, pub, bar, and beer gardeny person - anywhere where conversation can be held - and especially if it's a new place I've not been before.

Although not much of a sports follower when it comes to football etc., it's great to watch a match in a bar and is a great way of soaking up the local atmosphere. Throw in a pint and I'm definitely there.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music of all kinds, but especially electro, indie, rock. New stuff I've been enjoying recently includes the likes of Foals, Flume, The Black Keys, Caribou, Vitalic, Jamie T, Friendly Fires, Booka Shade, Ticon, Arcade Fire, Husky Rescue, Broken Bells, My Morning Jacket, Simian Mobile Disco and loads more. Spotify rocks!!

Reading this list 10 months later there is plenty of new stuff out too but I can't be arsed to update it!

Catching a good gig is always worth it, especially any up-and-coming artists too (I saw the Kooks at the Brighton Concorde before anyone had really heard of them!).

I'm not the biggest movie-head, sometimes less welcoming to feel-good blockbusters and more into alternative stuff, like European cinema. Some favourites of the past though have been La Haine, City of God, American Beauty, Shawshank redemption, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Dirty Pretty Things, Dazed and Confused, Grand Turino, American History X etc.

Still getting my head round the whole reading thing - something I'm trying to do more of when travelling. Book suggestions welcome...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Where to begin. Still so much to cover, but there has been some great moments so far....

Berlin (Berghain Club! - but all of it really)

Climbing Mount Doom and the glacier in NZ's was pretty cool (and Mt Doom pretty scary at the same time).

Trekking in Leh (Himalayas) was also brilliant. Partying in Kolkata, the tea plantations of Munnar and the backwaters of Kerala were also bloody good.

Sri Lanka (2 weeks on a scooter made me realise how much I like motorbikes, and staying in the Eco lodge in the Horton Plains area was amazing).

Vietnam, getting off the beaten track for 5 days with 3 mates and trying to do our own 'Easy Rider' trip with nothing but Google maps and our own bikes. Needless to say we got stuck in the most rural of villages, had no idea where the fuck anything was (including the hotels!) but it was probably the best trip I have ever done.

Cambodia and Thailand of course don't really need words...

Invite me out to the pub and I can tell you all about it...

Teach, Learn, Share

Anything computer or gadgety is a good place to start here. Want to know more about, get buying advice or having trouble with your computer, Mac, iPod, phone anything else techy? I'm your man. I'm also not bad with bikes either.

I'm a keen music listener and love sharing new and good tunes and albums with people - particularly if you like electronica and indie.

If you're thinking of travelling to any of the places I've been then I'll be more than happy to pass on any useful knowledge I can.
