About Me

Simon: I am currently splitting my time between working in northern Uganda and researching ayahuasca in the Amazon. I am a doctor and work in psychiatry. When I am not doing these things I am in my van travelling through Europe with hannah!

I am very sociable and energetic, trying to make the most of each day. I enjoy travelling, music, going out, gigs, generally having fun, enjoying life and experiencing new people and places.I enjoy having a good laugh with people, as well as deeper conversations that make you think.

Hannah: after living in Sheffield for 12 years and working at the same company for 6 of them I decided it was time for a change, so I've bought a van and am going to take him (vanson) as far as I can. So I don't need anywhere to stay but would love to learn more about places I'm visiting from locals! Especially in terms of food and drink... They're my favourite!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Simon: To allow anyone who comes my way to feel welcome and have a good time, and to enjoy the company and way of life of others who are kind enough to put me up!

Hannah: because it seems like a short cut to friendships! Simon has been on it forever and it just seems fantastic! We're travelling at the moment but I'm keen to open my house to people when I get back to help them get the best out of Sheffield!

Interests

Simon: Everything; from new adventures, meeting people, global issues, experiencing new places and way of lifeI also enjoy music, photography, film etc.

Hannah: I enjoy experiencing life, which doesn't necessarily mean all the big adventures, it can, but I also enjoy little things. 'living in the moment' seems to be a new fad that people strive for at the moment but it has never really been a problem for me! I can have fun waiting for traffic lights to change! I guess I'm just easily pleased!

Aside from traffic light games I love watching films, and going to the theatre, I'm getting quite in to art and exhibitions recently, love going out dancing, reading, learning, experimenting with my camera, filling out Internet profiles...

Music, Movies, and Books

Simon: Music and film are both great passions of mine. I listen to anything and everything from jazz to rock, techno to drum and bass, classical to indie anything and everything in-between. I also play a variety of instruments. Again, I love most films. A few of myfavourites include; shutter island, motorcycle diaries, big fish etc.

Favourite books include; to kill a mockingbird, veronica decides to die etc.

Hannah: this is always the hardest part of profiles to fill out! OK so music I'm in to is mainly old stuff that I grew up on: Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, Bowie, Prince, etc etc but I like to go out dancing too, preference going to a good old techno stomp but I will go to most electronic nights and have lots of fun.

Movies, I guess my favourite genre is Sci-Fi but I pretty much like anything that isn't a horror or too violent. I also have a lot of guilty pleasures which I don't think Simon will let me write.

Books: again mainly sci-fi fantasy type are probably my favourite, grew up on LOTR, Potter, Point sci-fi, but I like thrillers/mysteries as well! And classics. And comedy. And chic lit. OK so most books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Simon: Worked with child soldiers providing psychiatric care in Uganda.

Hannah: packed my job in, left my home and bought a van

Teach, Learn, Share

Simon: Experience EVERYTHING life has to offer. What an adventure that would be

Hannah: this is a tricky one for me because I'm a jack of all trades master of none, so if you know nothing about something I can give you the basics on anything, but that may be it! I have enthusiasm though!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Simon: An open mind, conversation, fun company and breakfast!

Hannah: I'll be supervising breakfast, it's necessary
