About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Returning to the Couchsurf Community after being absent for almost 3 years now (Gosh times flying fast!!!). Life has brought me back to this beautiful part of the planet also known as South East Asia where my CS experience first started off in Malaysia in May 2013.
Shortly after that I traveled to DOWN UNDER in the search of work to renovate my travel funds. Well as Life demanded I found not only work but also the woman of my dreams, in the midst of the desert of WA, where we worked and lived together for a while. Getting tired of the dry heat and bored out of our brains with our jobs it pulled us towards the greener part of the continent, namely to Port Douglas at the feet of the lush Daintree Rainforest in QLD. So we packed our little belongings in our faithful companion Betty which is an 97 Ford Falcon and drove the 4100 km stretch across the country.
We left Australia for good at the beginning of last year to get married traditionally Hindu in Kerala India. We instantly fell in Love with this wonderful country and ended up living there for a little over 12 months. Currently we are in Thailand to meet up friends. Carla (my wife) will meet a long term friend she hasn’t seen in years next week. And I thought I make use of my time alone in Bangkok to make some more friends. So hopefully see you soon :-)

ABOUT ME

I would describe myself as an hotchpotch of differences. On one side I can enjoy having a cup of tea on a Saturday night. If the atmosphere is comfortable and the conversation is invigorating we can easily spend a night philosophizing about Life.
Through Meditation and Yoga I’ve learned to appreciate the times in which I am introvert and just enjoying the time on my own.
At other times I also love to be outgoing and active. I love to be out hiking in nature. I love to have a good dance once in a while. If the music is just right I like to immerse myself into it and just forget about everything and dance. Spontaneity is my specialty. I'm impulsive, I don't like everything to be organized an well structured rather than to take any Situation in Life as it comes and enjoy it.
I value the time for my spiritual practice and I am health conscious when it comes to eating. One of my favorite hobby's is to socialize. For me there is nothing better than to be in good company with friendly people who are open to share experience, talk and laughter. I like to be inspired and I am always curious about new situations. I want things to be varied and exiting so I appreciate a change of scene now and then to don't get bored. I guess this is one of the reasons I got hooked to travel.
I am rather a cat person than a dog person. Character traits I have in common with a cat are the pride in the first place because I am also a little bit too proud sometimes, the curiosity and playfulness which I am constantly trying to improve and the madness or better crazy moments cats used to have. I don't know if you ever caught a cat in such a crazy moment when it is suddenly jumping and running all over the place. Similar to that I can also be very energetic so I need to cut back my energy somehow. That is when I used to push my Limits by challenge myself. Usually with doing sport. I like jogging in combination with some body-weight training and wherever it is possible I prefer to ride my bike instead of a car. Classical Hatha Yoga generates a smooth balance between the polarities to calm down and relax. My other passion is hiking. For me there is no better Place to be than outside in the distance enjoying nature and wilderness, climbing summits or just keep walking for miles. Things like Camping under the stars, swimming in natural lakes and rivers and cooking with the campfire are moments which I highly valuating.

PHILOSOPHY

Yet I still want to study different experiences instead of being stuck in one attitude to life to early. Although I am 30 already (for me the age is quite irrelevant) I am still looking where I am belonging to kind of. And I am enjoying it so far. So my present purpose in life is to be a husband and to find the place which we will call home.
My opinion is that the true life takes place in the present, only the present is Reality. A major problem is that many of us cling to the past and are constantly preoccupied with the future. It’s all about conscious living. The more conscious we live the happier we are.

"Like all good fruit the balance of life is in the ripe and ruin"
In my opinion everything and anything has to be in balance. Life will take care about this law automatically. I am appreciative when it comes to the pleasant parts but also try to accept the sad ones as a part of the whole.

If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us.
Hermann Hesse
If more people would see this there would be a lot of less condemnation and hate.

There's no reality except the one contained within us. That's why so many people live an unreal life. They take images outside them for reality and never allow the world within them to assert itself.
Hermann Hesse
The most true quote because it is simply amazing how we use to judge and condemn everything just out of our world of thoughts.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new friends.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For now I am still on the road. But as soon as we are back in our place which will be either New Zealand or Australia I will be happy to share a couch.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Well the best would be to read my reviews. In general I am uncomplicated and tried and tested living with other people. I am always willing to run my part of the household. That means: I am not afraid of cloths :-D
In my opinion one of the main merits if you`re sharing a flat is that there is always someone around. It has been a pleasure to spend that quality time cooking, eating, drinking and celebrating together with my fellows. This is actually the way of staying I would like to find on CS. Instead of just sharing the materialistic things like food and furnishing also share anything else and enjoy it.

Interests

- Since 2010 travelling has been my life.
- Until I found my passion Classical Hatha Yoga in a Ashram in Tamil Nadu where I successfully graduated after an intense 6 months training as a Teacher.
- My main occupation during my travels is reading, so that's definitely an interest.
- gliding is what I had to give up when I decided to travel but I will get back to that for sure one day.
- Meeting all kinds of people
- Hiking in nature as described in detail earlier.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
There are two sections for my taste of music. Firstly, when I am on a festival or in a club for ex., I like to listen to certain types of electro especially dub step and drum and base. If I am by myself I am more an melancholy type of person. So I use to listen to sounds which are more leisurely. There are times (especially the hectic ones) where I like to Chill Out, so then I am listen to Moods like Cafe Del Mar or Buddhabar to relax and switch off. Favorites are changing by the time but I would emphasize artists like Bon Iver, Alt-J, Regina Spector, Bonobo, Rhye, The XX, Black Atlass, SOHN, Sebastien Tellier, Moon Safari, Archive, The Cure... Besides I adore almost anything which got produced in the 70`s. Especially Bob Dylan, Jimmy Hendrix,The Doors and Dire Straits. I also never stop listen to classics like Bob Marley, Nina Simone or Louis Armstrong. I cant stand most of the commercialized chart-breaker they use to play nowadays.

Books:
As I described earlier I like to spend plenty of my free time with reading, especially while traveling. I never got bored of the novels and short stories of Philip K. Dick. I've pretty much read all of his works in the recent years. For me he has been a genius. Reading about his future scenarios still excite me.
As a German I also like the works of the great German writers. With this trip I just started with Hermann Hesse. The Glass Bead Game, Narcissus and Goldmund and especially Siddhartha have been great books for reading on the road. I liked Wilhelm Tell (Friedrich Schiller). I also like to read books from the thriller genre. One of my favorites is the David Hunter series by Simon Beckett. There are also some commonly known Bestsellers I really enjoyed reading. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy by Stieg Larsson or Michael Crichtons "Next". My favorite work of Steven King is Hearts in Atlantis.
If I am not reading novels I am reading reference books which mainly dealing with the human psychology.

Movies:
One of the most inspiring movies has been Waking Life. Legends like Pulp Fiction and Fight Club I never get tired of watching. Half Baked was simply hilarious. The woman who sings is one of the most moving movies in my opinion.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are plenty of amazing things I've seen. But I prefer to express these experiences verbally rather than in the written word...so that should be another reason for you to host me and question me about it ;-p

Teach, Learn, Share

- I can teach you some yoga
- As I love cooking I can provide delicious self prepared meals which I am willing to share with my host(s).
- If there is any technical problem with your computer (either software or hardware) I am pretty optimistic that I will be able to fix it.
- I don't carry a lot of baggage but I do carry a hard drive packed with movies and series for those relaxed evenings.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Smiles :-)
