CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME
"All" about me? Now that's a tall order.
I studied writing and philosophy at university. I do web design as a hobbyist. And for the past year I've worked as an advertising editor for a large tech company.
Now now position is moving overseas, as of November I'll be jobless, and I'm looking to do some travelling domestically while doing some soul-searching. Walt Whitman and Kate Chopin have been beckoning me toward Louisiana.
As far as philosophy goes, I always leaned toward that of a French or Asian persuasion. Hinduism and Buddhism fascinate me, and Taoism has its salient points. I practiced yang style tai chi for about a year, have been on a hiatus for the past year or so, and and to get back to it now that I'm out of work. Eventually I'd love to practice tai chi in China and do some travelling through Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand.
This probably fails on the "all" about me, but if there's anything you want to know, just ask.
PHILOSOPHY
All is not lost.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Have hosted a few surfers. Looking forward to hosting more and being hosted myself.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I had an entire Ultimate "Frisbee" team stay in my apartment at one point. Other than that, I've hosted tons of friends and even had a gentleman from Georgia stay as he was biking across the country.

Music, Movies, and Books
Trying to get into Camus and Derrida right now. Also love Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. Don't have a lot of free time for reading, but I enjoy what I can get (trying to muscle my way through Dracula as far as fiction goes). I love foreign and independent films. Amelie, 800 Bullets, Night Watch, Sex and Death 101, Hard Candy, Chumscrubber, etc. Music should either A) have deep lyrics, or B) have a heavy beat. I love a lot of classic rock, and stuff with punk or hard rock influences. Also some indie hip-hop/rap (Brother Ali, Sage Francis, Soul Position, etc.). It's more of a question of what I won't listen to.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I saw a group of friends clean and bandage another friend's leg after she had surgery. The care that they took was amazing, especially since they were college students and could have easily been off doing their own thing. It's so simple, but it really moved me. You see so much rugged individualism on a college campus (people finally free from the parents, eh?)... it's nice to see people working together.
Teach, Learn, Share
You can make your own laundry detergent by combining two cups of grated bar soap (about one bar, and something unscented and uncolored) with one cup of borax and one cup of washing soda (check the laundry aisle). You only need to use two tablespoons per load.
