About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Support my schoolfriend co-parent raising our son, who was born on 8/4/23! This will involve some Couchsurfing preferably around Stroud Green.

More long term: Publish a children's biology book (www.worldofcells.com) and figure out how to build a hammam in Cambridge, employing refugees and collaborating with the Universities, a language school, Cambridge Zero and community groups.

ABOUT ME

Like many on here, I love travel to different cultures. If I’m staying with you, I’ll be as excited about visiting your favourite local cafe as going to the most famous tourist attraction. In Cambridge, I’ll be very happy to take you around a College and let you know of any festivals that are on.

I love the outdoors, cycling, badminton, tennis, theatre, live music and dance. I've done a day's paragliding so far and really want to continue that.

I used to be a classical singer, touring Europe, and was part of a group which performed the first operas in the West Bank this millennium.

PHILOSOPHY

Love your neighbour as yourself. Simple but effective.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hosted a fair amount in Amman. When my housing situation in Cambridge allows it, I'll do so again.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first couchsurfing experience was with Zeinab in Petra. She and her husband Ali generously welcomed me into their home as their first ever couchsurfer. I got on really well with their 2 year old, who finding out that my name is Peter, realised immediately that I must be Spiderman! The most incredible experience there was a village meal, where the men sat on the roof, eating delicious goat meat from a goat skull with our hands. I now know that to be the famous dish "mensaf".
Since then, I've couchsurfed with wonderful people in Paris, Reims, St Petersburg and Haifa and also welcomed surfers from Vilnius, Brisbane, Washington DC, Milan, Paris and Manchester.

Interests

Anything outside, meeting other people. I enjoy finding out about other people's interests, even those that they/you don't think are interesting!

Musicals, theatre, concerts
Wildlife - flora and fauna. Preferably big and/or colourful
Sport - tennis if watching. Team running or badminton if playing. Cycled the length of the UK.
Travel. Guess that's shared with everyone on this site.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. Subsequently into Brian Sanderson
I love both big, heart-wrenching blockbusters and also political, arty films, and don't watch enough of either.
Today's music playlist, for example, featured Handel, a Jordanian singer and the soundtrack to Sister Act the Musical.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spotted an anaconda in the Amazon.

And probably more importantly(!), I started a Health and Relationships programme of study in my predominantly Muslim school in Jordan, where there hadn’t been one before.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've written a children's book, which I'll very happily read to you, but only if requested !

Would love to buy you a drink at somewhere that is typical of normal life in your area.
