About Me

CURRENT MISSION

get the hell outta dodge

ABOUT ME

I live in New York and I love it here. There's always something to do, sometimes it gets overwhelming trying to plan your next Big Thing. Right now I work at a yarn store and help people with their knitting. I dance with a bunch of cool women of all ages. I volunteer at a bookstore that raises money for homeless people with HIV/AIDS. It's not the busiest I could be but it's a start.

By October I'll have moved to Brooklyn, where I will ride a bike, cook more veggies, own less stuff, and hang out with more people besides my coworkers.

Sometimes in sillier moments I pretend to be a dinosaur. When I was younger (~20 years old) I wanted to be a glacier when I grew up. Now I'm just not so sure.

Interests

Cities, indie rock, things and people that are unironically happy, delicious food either at home or out, good beer, good people, good anything.

I'm one of those adaptable people who definitely has interests, but I am really happiest when I'm with a group of people all trying something new together and enjoying themselves. I'm a bit of a social sponge...or tofu (just as white but not as square).

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Withnail and I, Annie Hall, The Life Aquatic, Lost in Translation, Lars and the Real Girl

Music: Belle and Sebastian, Fleet Foxes, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sufjan Stevens

Books: "The Long Loneliness" by Dorothy Day, books about modern design. Lately I've been getting back into fiction and really digging Updike.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once had the privilege of telling a 12-year old black girl in rural Nevada, on the eve of Obama's election, "Yes, Anaya, anyone can be president." It was a good moment.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know things about: knitting, one pot cooking, art history, world religion, block printing. I like to sing and will sing with you.
