About Me

Hello fellow citizens of the world

I'm a 30 years young Scottish lass from Glasgow originally.

I have lived all over the UK, travelled around most of Western Europe and have made trips to the USA, Iceland, Egypt, all through South East Asia and Australia and New Zealand over the years.

In 2015 I volunteered with a US based NGO called All Hands in the Philippines where we helped repair and rebuild houses in Tacloban, one of the worst affected areas in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda to the locals). I spent May - July this summer picking up my hard hat, protective glasses and respirator again with the newly formed All Hands And Hearts putting my efforts towards the clean up, repairing and rebuilding required after Harvey, Irma and Maria and helped out on projects in Texas and St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.

After 10 weeks hard work volunteering in the heat, I now find myself very much in need of a vacation and am in the middle of making my way through Guatemala, Cancun and Cuba. I would love to catch up with some like minded folks for beers / food / dancing / live music / pet stroking.

Like most people here I imagine, I adore travelling and taking photos (usually have at least 3 cameras on me at all times), exploring new places, absorbing new cultures, meeting new and interesting people and doing exciting things.

I love going to see local home grown music and comedy and having a good chat putting the world to rights over a few drinks (rum, cider and craft beer are my poisons of choice) so if this sounds like the kind of thing you're interested in too I'd love to come and say hey if you'll have me for a night or two.

I would be happy to help out around your place with any chores that need done, cook up something tasty for us and host you back in Scotland should you ever require it whenever I make it back home.

I look forward to swapping stories soon!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Any hot tips or recommendations you have for Guatemala, Cancun or Cuba would be hugely appreciated and an offer of stimulating conversation, laughs, dancing and / or a couch / bit of floor space would be ENORMOUSLY appreciated.

Having hosted couch surfers in Scotland and New Zealand and from couch surfing in South East Asia myself, I loved the opportunities it brought to meet people from different backgrounds and get a proper exposure to the real vibe of the place I'm visiting or give a traveller that exposure in my home country.

I have met life long friends on my couch surfing journeys so far and hope to keep doing so.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourites:

Food - I'll eat anything especially anything spicy but probably Mexican. I just love food

Music - Again I like a lot but Joy Division, Daft Punk, Sigur Rós and Radiohead are a good representative cross section

Films - Amelie, Lars & The Real Girl, anything quirky / edgy / thought provoking

TV shows - aside from the obvious GOT, Breaking Bad etc I love shows like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and I'm a sucker for toons like Adventure Time and Over The Garden Wall. I suppose I'm a kid at heart.

Books - I adore Chuck Palahniuk.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Life is full of amazing moments! Especially when you're open to new experiences.

My favourite memories include sea kayaking with wild dolphins off the Gold Coast of Australia, watching the sunrise after the best all night chat of my life on Koh Tao, Thailand, swimming with giant sea turtles and amongst bioluminescent algae in the same day on St Thomas, attending the Mount Hagen Culture Show and watching thousands of Papua New Guinean tribe members perform traditional dances in their traditional dress, camping on a beach within the rock islands of Palau and being able to see the entire Milky Way spread across the ocean and watching a 64 year old lady whose home we helped clear out perform a moko jumbie dance for the organisation I volunteer with as a thank you.

The solo trips I've taken through South East Asia, Australasia, the US and Central America were definitely amazing. I have skydived from 10,000ft but somehow being out on the road / sea / lake / air all alone seems even more exciting!

Aside from that, I have helped rebuild, repair and clean up houses, orphanages and schools in the Philippines, Texas and St Thomas damaged by typhoon Yolanda and Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria in the past 3 years. Being part of a team of inspiring volunteers was pretty amazing. I also loved spending time with the locals, especially the children, who were so thankful and kind. I have never met a more welcoming and resilient subset of people. Hearing their individual stories of loss, seeing how they live with very little complaining was humbling to say the least and I now plan to complete a Masters in International Disaster Management to carry out more work like this.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am sadly not musically skilled so there will be no serenading or tutoring! I bought a ukulele a few years ago and can only play 3 chords :(

I do like to think of myself as a decent cook, however, so I would be happy to foot the grocery bill and cook something nice for you / your family. I am also an excellent pet sitter, particularly fond of cats and dogs. Same goes for kids seeing as I still am one at heart myself!

As I said above, I'm happy to help out with chores / help in any way I can and always willing to help anybody better their English.

I suppose if you want to know anything about psychology and mental health I guess I could help you there too.

My time as a disaster relief volunteer equipped me with some basic demolition and construction skills if you'd need any help in that area.
