About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To learn as much about the world and its people as I can
ABOUT ME
I've lived in Kaiserslautern for almost 3 years and I work in IT. I love living in Europe but the weather in Germany can be... difficult to deal with! haha I love traveling, meeting cool laid back people, trying new foods, talking and learning about many of the cultural differences that make all of the cultures of the world the same and yet different.
PHILOSOPHY
I think that much like hardships, trust can bring people together in ways that you would not expect. CS is a good example. Some people that I've had the opportunity to stay with I consider family now because I trusted them to host me and they trusted me to let me in their home. American culture and others in the west tend to lean towards fear rather than trust. I like it the other way.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Thus far, I've only surfed with people and been to some cool meetings. I;m happy to host anyone at all but not many people come to the tiny, quiet kingdom of KUSEL!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Everyone I have met or surfed with has been so nice! I love it! CS is people learning from people and defying stereotypes and politics. What can you learn from a hotel room! Niente!
Interests
A personal hobby is spoken word poetry. I've performed in the UK, Italy, US, Israel, Germany, Austria Singapore and Malaysia. You can check some of my work at www.sionpoety.com
It's been a really great hobby and being able to witness this art form within other cultures has been really great too!
Music, Movies, and Books
The things you own... end up owning you...
DOCUMENTARIES!!! I love them! FRONTLINE, VBS.tv, BBC and Al-Jazeera specials are so interesting to me!
I'm a huge fan of skepticism podcasts such as the Skeptics Guide to the Universe, Point of Inquiry and Skeptically Speaking.
I love underground hip-hop. Anything on the Strange Famous, Rhymesayers or Doomtree record labels is gold to me.
I love hearing new music from others as well. If we get to meet or I surf with you, more than likely I will give you a CD with music you probably haven't heard, hopefully we can trade!!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
While in Singapore I got to teach a high school literature class and talk to kids about my experiences as a performance poet. It was... awesome! Having that experience allowed me to be a guest speaker at two other schools in Rhode Island and in Germany. It was really amazing!
