About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To have a more open mind. Explore as much as I can before I start working.

ABOUT ME

I was born in Malaysia, but studied and stayed in Singapore for the past 6 years. Now I am in California studying Cognitive Science in UCLA.

I like talking to people and knowing about their culture and the world they come from. I value people who are honest about themselves, and their opinions. I do not get offended with views of others, and I am very happy that I get to know their views and perspectives.

PHILOSOPHY

I think we should all learn as much as possible, and not let our thoughts and beliefs be clouded by dogma and environmental conditioning. We should always see things from all the different possible angles, and though they might be confusing, we should try to make sense of them.

I'm on my own journey of learning, and I hope to make my view of life more whole.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Unfortunately, I am a full-time university student in Los Angeles, California, so I cannot host people in Taiping. If you're in Los Angeles though, I would like to meet you! :)

================
(Previous post)

I can host people from all over the world. You can just send me a request and I will reply to you on whether I can host you.

Even if I am not hosting you, I can also bring you around Taiping if I am free, which is mostly during the weekends.

Meeting up over a meal or just a cup of tea is also very welcome.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

2 friends shared this a while ago, and it was very exciting to hear about the couchsurfing concept!

Unfortunately there are not much couschsurfers in Taiping, and it is not that easy to meet other surfers.

Since I joined, I have hosted one surfer, Eunice Ren, from China. She is very nice and friendly. I had a great experience talking to her and exchanging culture with her. Hosting Eunice was really a good experience for me and my family, and we hope to be able to host and meet more surfers from all over the world.

Interests

== Long-distance Running ==
This is a past-time for me. I just love running, 30 mins to 2 hour runs are very enjoyable. If anyone likes running, I'd love to run with you.

== Cognitive Science ==
This is my major in university. How people perceive and think has always fascinated me. Why people feel guilt, why silence is uncomfortable, why we feel lonely, what makes us see the world as we do, etc. are all questions that spark my thoughts. I love discussions on this topic with people, it's like thought-surfing.

== Badminton ==
I used to play competitively, but not anymore. I enjoy the thrill of playing badminton as it's quite a fast-paced game. I love the rush.

== The Outdoors ==
The outdoors are great. I love being outside with nature and the wilderness. I prefer to run in trails instead of roads. I prefer the towns that are closer to nature than being in a busy city. Trekking, running, walking, camping, kayaking, or just anything with nature excites me.

== Beliefs/Perspectives ==
I love talking to people to know what it looks like from their point of view. I have explored religion on a personal scale, and would like to learn more about other religions and beliefs. I have always found it interesting why people believe what they do. I respect all beliefs because we all have reasons in why we believe them.

== Meditation/Juggling/Beatboxing/Parkour ==
These are my pastimes. I just started learning Parkour, and am improving my skills. I am actively juggling now as well. I stopped practicing beatboxing many years ago, but I can teach you anything you'd like to know about it. I used to meditate almost everyday, then I stopped, and now I'm picking it back up.

As always, I'd like to share everything I know, if you'd like to learn. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

== Music ==
I love the hits from the 1980s. Reo Speedwagon, Firehouse, Rod Stewart, Queen, etc.
Celine Dion is favourite too.

Genres would be soft rock and new age.
E.g. Yanni, Enya, Lindsey Stirling, Bon Jovi

== Movies ==
I love V for Vendetta and The Lord of The Rings, but really, any English movie is okay. Comedies are a favourite.

== Books ==
Cognitive Science books, such as those by Daniel Goleman. It seems like I'm just currently into Cognitive Science now. Kahlil's Gibran's The Prophet is very enjoyable too.

For fiction, I love Life of Pi, Novels by Tony Parsons, and Norwegian Wood (Murakami).

I used to pass time while taking public transport in Singapore by reading books, so I read a number of books then. I have a list of all the books I read, so if you're interested in what kinds of books I read, you are welcome to ask me, and I can send you my book list. :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Completed the 100km Ultramarathon without much training. It took me 18+ hours. Nothing to boast about, but I think it made me understand that I can do things.

Studied in Singapore from age 16 to 19, and served in Singapore National Service from age 20 to 21. Not amazing, but have a view on Singapore at least.

I hosted Eunice, from China, and it was really a wonderful experience. This was new for me, and I really hope to be able to meet more people through Couchsurfing!
