ABOUT ME

I (Sam) am a music teacher living in Philadelphia, PA. When I'm not teaching elementary band in a suburb outside of Atlantic City, I love exploring Philadelphia and daydreaming about future travel plans. Owen, my boyfriend, and I have lived in Philadelphia for three years. I am pursuing her Master's in Music Education at Temple University and Owen finished his Master's in Flute performance in 2012. We love all things that come with living in the city. We have a greyhound, Brielle, who we adopted a year and a half ago.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that you get out of life what you put into it. Being negative does not get you anywhere, and I prefer to look on the bright side of life. There is so much to do and experience, and being negative gets in the way of that for me personally. I try to push myself to my personal limits and try new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I signed up for couch surfing while I was still in college, but could not host anyone while I moved back in with my family. Once we got an apartment together, we could barely fit themselves into the tiny studio apartment. Now, we have a much larger place. We've hosted several people now, and we love it!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have hosted several surfers at our apartment, but we have not surfed yet! We love sharing our love of Philadelphia with our surfers.

Interests

Sam: Yoga, current events, reading, greyhounds, music of all kinds, art, traveling, teaching, trying out new recipes, and living life to the fullest.

Owen: Sports, craft beer, music, Game of Thrones, traveling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Sam:

Movies: Dark Knight Rises, Avengers, Brave, Spiderman,
Music: As a music teacher, I'm pretty much open to anything that doesn't involve screaming, but I'm digging the new Mumford and Sons album.
Books: I love getting books from the library, so my recent reads include Song of Achilles, Mistborn series, Wheel of Time series. I’m planning on reading A Song of Ice and Fire when I have time this summer.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of our favorite memories is backpacking in western Europe together four years ago. We're going again this summer!

Teach, Learn, Share

We both really enjoy cooking and making music, so we would love to exchange both of those things with you. We are both musicians and both play the flute. I used to study Spanish, but haven't used it regularly since I traveled to Spain a couple of years ago. We want to be able to share our love and knowledge of Philadelphia with someone who wants to come check it out.
