About Me
ABOUT ME
Sjoerd, me, I am a calm but mostly enthusiastic student, born and raised in the Netherlands. I'm eager to meet new people and get to know themselves and their culture. With or without a language barrier, that's what I enjoy the most about traveling: meeting people!
Currently I am studying abroad in Norway, trying to mingle with the local viking clan.
PHILOSOPHY
For the past couple of years I've slowly come to realize that other than working, studying or doing whatever is expected of you, doing what you love most is important above all. Even thought there might not be a particular thing that you crave to do right now, someday there will be and by then you should be ready to follow that desire and just do it. Sounds vague and dreamy? Agreed but it's a thought that sometimes pops into my head and I try to hold on to it for as long as I can :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Some of my friends talked about Couchsurfing a couple of years ago, back then it sounded really great but unfortunately I never took the time to get into it. Last summer, when I was traveling around the United States with a friend of mine, somebody offered their couch in Boston. We cancelled our booking of the hostel and had a great experience with local people from the Boston area.
Afterwards I thought it was a shame we only discovered Couchsurfing at the end of our trip, we could have so much more fun surfing in the other cities as well!
Long story short, never knew how awesome couchsurfing was untill I actually did it!
Interests
Music has always been of great interest to me, mostly listening to folk, indie, classic rock, techno.
Movies are of equal interest to me!
Other hobbies are photography (I just got a new analogue camera! :) and I like to exercise as well. Last year I rowed a lot, in an 8+ for the university boat club, but I've left the crew as I'm going to travel in February '13

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hiking along the Appalachian trail for a few miles, with the sun rising alongside me and wild deers watching you closely when you walk by. Pure bliss.
Rowing on the Danube river from Austria to Hungary in a rowing boat with 4 other people. Wow, just wow. Some of the most sereen moments of my life so far were on that boat
