Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My brother introduced me to couch surfing. He has hosted and been hosted and only has positive things to say about his experience. I haven't had the opportunity to host or be hosted yet but I'm definitely looking forward to it. I think it will be so much fun to introduce people to the city I live in and find out all about them and hopefully I will be able to CouchSurf around the world, meeting interesting, passionate, funny people.

Interests

Travelling - visiting new and exciting places in South Africa aa well as the rest of the world. Meeting people - listening to their stories. Art, Adventure - trying something new - a new place, a new taste or a new route to work. I would love to learn all sorts of dances, rather than merely pulling out my usual moves. I like sport, watching and participating...except golf - it bores me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Only one? I've worked as a psychologist on the Phelophepa Health Care train in South Africa, offering free services to those in need, I've stood on top of Table Mountain in Cape Town and I've looked deep into a volcanic crater in Mauritius. I've watched the sunrise from a hot air balloon and seen the Durban coast line from a helicopter. I've been the midwife for a litter of kittens and rescued lost dogs in thunderstorms. I've stood in the middle of salt pans where you can hear nothing but the wind and I've canoed down the rapids of the Orange River. I've been to the top of the Eiffel tower and seen architecture in Europe I learnt about in school in real life. I've taught English to refugees from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and have shared smiles when no common language existed. I've watched as teenage boys begin to appreciate poetry, as friends unite when tragedy strikes and how laughter can build friendships, cut tension and be the perfect ending to a day...and there's more. I have seen and done many amazing things, and hopefully there are many, many more to come.
