About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Share ideas, cultivate inspiration through connecting and meeting others.

ABOUT ME

I'm currently studying woodblock printmaking in Kyoto. As an adopted Korean-born American who lives in Japan, a lot of my work has to do with identity.

I really love life in Kyoto, and am always looking to meet new people and share language and ideas.

PHILOSOPHY

I think a lot about cultural loyalty, and the impact it has on personal identity.

I'm constantly trying to pare down and get rid of stuff. I'm frequently on the move and hate accumulating things.

If I was on a desert island, I'd probably want just a nice pen and some empty pages.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met some really nice people through my travels thanks to this site.

Interests

-I like printmaking, and art in general. If you want to see my stuff, just ask~
-I used to play in a band in college, but I've recently just decided it's just a hobby. Hard to be a musician and an artist :P
-I grew up in Boston, its a pretty big baseball town so I enjoy going to games!
-I have a lot of fun cooking. If I didn't have to cook for myself out of necessity, I'd probably still cook a few times a week. It's great to have access to Japanese ingredients!
-I love skiing, snow, and being outdoors in the winter.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like Murakami and the odd biography of the odd individual. Kerouac and friends. I've read some fantasy but I can't help but think it's a waste of time. Best-sellers and classics occasionally find their way to my bed-side table. I will give most movies a chance that get higher than a 60% on rottentomatoes. I force myself to watch old B&W classics because I think I should, not because I actually want to (which is a good thing since I usually end up liking them). Studio Ghibli films are probably the only ones that have gotten an emotional rise out of me.

Not a big show-goer, or a broad consumer of music in general, lately. Don't get me wrong, I like music; just been been a little disenchanted with the last decade or so. The older stuff seems more sincere I guess.

I dunno there's plenty of bands, movies, and shows I could list but I'd rather connect on other levels. I REALLY enjoy music and movies and such but I don't think it's absolutely necessary to love Radiohead or Arrested Development or Eternal Sunshine in order to click. I hope this makes sense to you.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hitchhiked from Hokkaido down to Kyushu and around Okinawa, and slept in a tent along the way. I don't know if I could do it again, but it was an incredible experience.
