Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Find the perfect chocolate croissant.
ABOUT ME
I like learning, exploring, climbing trees, having conversations, and eating good food. I was born in the States to Canadian parents, so I'm dual, and tend to consider myself more Canadian than American (I went to high school in Arizona where my nickname was Canada).
PHILOSOPHY
Care. It doesn't matter too much what you care about, just that you do. It's like Sheperd Book in Firefly "I don't care what you believe, Mal, just believe it."I suppose for myself I don't logically believe in taking any principle to be absolute, but I do find that my gut drives me to be kind, to be honest, and to explore and ask questions.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I couchsurfed a bit while I was in the UK, which was super fun, and I made a new friend while I was home in the States. I hope to host in the future, but for now I don't have the space/resources for that.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Had fun meeting up for tea with a couchsurfer where I live, had a fantastic time surfing with K8NROB from Edinburgh, and had a spontaneous and wonderful stay at Diane Jones place in Newcastle. All great experiences that have given me quite a positive outlook on couchsurfing.
Interests
Climbings trees, making art in odd places (Andy Goldsworthy is awesome), make/listen/dance to music, good conversations, chocolate, cheese (especially goat cheese), cats, smoothies, wandering. Also, biology in general... from the organic chem and genetics to community ecology.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Ben Howard, The Wailin' Jennys, Be Good Tanyas, Po' Girl, Metric, Oysterband, Great Big Sea, Blind Pilot, Bon Iver, BOY, Tegan and Sara, Emmylous Harris, Greg Brown, Basia Bulat, Florence and the Machine, Fleet Foxes, Zaac Pick, Fleetwood Mac...
Books: I don't read as much as I'd like to these days, but I'm a fan of Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, Brandon Sanderson's fantasy books, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, and others.
Movies: I'm not much of a movie-watcher, but my old favourites include Ever After, Shrek, and Matilda, and my newer favourites would include Garden State, Toy Story 3, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, and 3 Idiots (a bollywood).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I think people should have to fill something like this out every day, to remind themselves that they have done amazing things and that it's hard to choose between them, and then to also remind themselves of what amazing things they have yet to do. I can't seem to choose, having spent an hour or so thinking about it, but one thing I have done that sits nicely in my heart is dancing under the midnight sun in the Yukon, BC. 24 hour daylight really is a thing to behold.
Teach, Learn, Share
I recommend taking the structural elements from a waffle recipe (read: eggs, less sugar) and the taste elements of a brownie recipe (read: chocolate), and combine them to make brownie waffles. Then eat them with all sorts of fruits and cream-based things, and also if you're into it, brie cheese and/or bacon. I also recommend that, if you like chocolate, you should try sipping chocolate. If there is enough planning/notice beforehand, and I happen to stay at your place, I will bring you some. It's best with whole milk, but if you don't do dairy it can apparently be made with almond milk, soy milk, etc.
