ABOUT Us

Currently living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, my husband and I own a Parkour Training Facility, a sports complex, and a regular gym. A day in hte life of us AT THIS TIME, is getting up, heading to work, and working all day these days. We are in a development/growth phase right now... So unfortunately, don't have time to host :( But that is just temporary!

We were married in 2014 and have been together since 2010

In 2011 we moved to China for a year and a half. While we were there we travelled all over China, South East Asia and North Korea. We also started our own English training centre.

PHILOSOPHY
While I was travelling, a good friend of mine posted the saying "If not now, when?" and she tagged me in it. She shared this with me because I was doing what I wanted to now.

Another guide I like to go by is, if your not happy with something, change it. It's easier to take on a little stress of moving or getting a new job but it's always hard to continue being where you don't like. (bad relationships, bad job, bad living situation etc). Maybe that's whys I'm considered the gypsy of my friends. hehe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We would love to have a stronger couch surfing presence. To be honest, we host people all the time but they have been friends of friends, or people we meet along the way, or people from the Parkour community or friends from China. But we would love to host more often.

As long as we are around, we would be happy to offer our couch / sofa bed to travellers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
When we were in Beijing, we over heard an Argentinian couple looking for some RMB. All they had was American money. We were going to North Korea a month later and could use US cash so we bought some from them. Found out later they were going to Hong Kong. I told them to stop by on their way and come to Guangzhou. An amazing couple! On there way through we met with them and they stayed with us.

We have people from the Parkour community stay with us whenever they need it.

Last year we had some friends come visit from China. I helped them get their 10 year visa and then toured them around the city and even took them to Banff.

Interests

Though we spend a lot of time working these days, we also enjoy going to movies and hanging out with our dog.

We like playing board games, doing puzzles, going to movies, playing videos games, going to the mountains, reading books, etc. I personally also enjoy painting or doing artistic things. I am not so talented but I enjoy the process.

I also love ariel silks, yoga, hula hooping, and running. I go to the gym and lift weights (small weights) because it is good for me, but I don't love it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I know it might sound lame, but I love the Hunger Games series. Matt also read them and enjoyed them but he is more of a Non-fiction reader.

We like a bunch of different kinds of music but a few of our shared favorites are Death Cab for Cutie, Arkells, Of Monsters and Men, Half Moon Run, Walk the Moon, Atl J, Childish Gambino, Serena Ryder, Jack White, July Talk, The Bleachers,and many, many more! We just in general love pretty much all music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For me (Frankie) something amazing that I have done was quit my 9 - 5 job to become a full blown entrepreneur. Also, before we moved to China, selling all of our stuff, dropping everything and then just going!

For Matt, he created this company (with some of my help) from the ground up.

We also went to North Korea in August of 2012 and August 2013 and that was quite the experience. Seeing the Airirang Games (google it) was by far the most amazing thing I have ever seen. It filled me with a bunch of different feelings. In 2013 we brought a group of Parkour athletes to train in North Korea.

But I have to say that the best experiences I have has have been with the people I meet. I love to hear about where others have been. It inspires me to do more.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can teach you some Parkour moves and to hula hoop. Also some basic Chinese!

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you come stay with us, we can show you around Calgary and Alberta (depending on time) and we are willing to drive. Especially to places we have yet to go ourselves. We can also help book trips (like in Banff). If you are interested in learning Parkour, we can also hook you up!

If we stay with you, we can show you some Parkour moves. We also have traveled around China, South East Asia and North Korea. We can offer a lot of advice now or just talk about your experience and compare how they relate to each other!
