One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Antarctic.

Teach, Learn, Share

I once picked up a guy hitchhiking because he was standing there with a guitar case. Nice guy. We had been chatting for an hour or so when I asked him wat kind of music he plays. He said, "What?". "The guitar", I said. "Oh that's just a case", he replied, "It's full of my stuff. I just carry it around to get rides; you never know when someone might stop to pick me up thinking I'm John Denver or somthing."

About a year later I found a french horn case on the streets of Portland, Oregon. At the time, I had just wrecked my car and was hitchhiking to work everyday from Sandy to Mt Hood. I remembered the guy with the guitar case and picked it up thinking it might help my cause. I tried it a couple of times but didn't work too well. I think it kind of freaked people out to see a french horn player hitchhiking. Plus it was cumbersome and irregularly shaped and I couldn't fit much in it. Eventually I had to let it go.

Lesson to be learned: if you want someone to think you are John Denver, don't hitchhike with a french horn case.
