About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Write every day.

ABOUT ME

I currently live with my boyfriend, Max, who hasn't couch-surfed yet. Still, he's excited to host and see what it's all about. He's a chef at a really lovely farm-to-table restaurant, and he used to do hibachi! I just graduated with a BA in English literature and German from the U of M Twin Cities. Right now, I'm a barista, but my plan is to be an educator and a writer. I want to understand the global society we live in, how I fit in, and what I can do to make my existence a positive one. I suppose if someone tried to describe me they would say that I smile more than most people, I seriously consider what people have to say, and I like to write. **If I could be a connoisseur of anything, it would be jam.**

PHILOSOPHY

I've learned not to fight the people close to me when they try to get me to do something wild. Every time I resist out of fear, I only waste the time I could spend really living. Because of the people I love, I've gone swing dancing, played the musical saw in a bus station, performed in a college production, went to Ireland, sold my MN hat to an Irishman in a pub, sang karaoke in a biker bar downtown Duluth and more odd things that were really fun. I'm just learning how to take my chances.

The less I have, the closer I am to seeing what's important.
Also, if you don't buy a plane/train/bus ticket, you'll never go.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted a few couch surfers in the past three years and all of my experiences have been positive. My old roommate Michelle and I first couch-surfed in Ireland where we had some grand adventures. My hosting days were sort of on hold for a while during my year in Austria since I had such an itty-bitty living space. Then, Michelle and I did a little more couch-surfing for about four days in Istanbul with our friend Adnan.

Interests

My interests are reading, German (literature, language, history, culture), coffee, vinyl, skiing, swing dancing, adventures, camping, scrabble, painting, pottery, horses, admiring slam-poetry, social justice, acting, writing, and most of all people. I am also an avid movie watcher and ice cream taste-tester. A friend of mine has been teaching me a little bit about brewing beer and how to appreciate it. When it comes to art, I get big ideas and start writing a novel one day, but then I'll pick up a brush and start painting something instead.

Max loves cooking, ultimate frisbee, chess, hip-hop, biking in the summer, comedy, and camping. He works full-time as a chef at a farm to table restaurant.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling around Ireland with almost no plan, few places to stay, and a bad sense of direction.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am only a lowly undergraduate, but I do have a few things I can share. I can teach you how to juggle, prepare a monologue, or knit. I could give you your first German lesson. I don't know much about painting; I'm still learning, but I would love to share a canvas, some paint, and my easel. If I had access to a pottery wheel and some clay, I could also show you how to throw something on the wheel. I can make a pretty mean strawberry rhubarb pie and banana bread. I might even share my secret to happiness with you.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Serbia, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In

Austria, United States
