About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make a steady leap from California to New York City

ABOUT ME

I'm a closed minded person who hates traveling and if I never met another new person in my life, I would be pretty content with that. Kidding! I'm kidding.

My name is Sky. I am Native American, which is a large part of my life and work, and a recent college grad, interested in film, video and human rights.

I like to take my time with things, and enjoy nothing more than charging my batteries at home or out on the town just thinking or listening to audiobooks, comedy, or podcasts. That being said, I am just as happy being outgoing and interactive as well as being introverted and quiet. I'm trained and interested in film, photography, broadcast journalism, and community development. I like being around people and places with a strong sense on community and culture and really enjoy getting entrenched in the art/music/cultural scene wherever I live. There is nothing better than knowing where the musics happening and where to meet some cool creative people.

I love love love just sitting around the house and lounging, reading or drinking tea, often to the shigrin of others but hey, whats wrong with kicking back? Not big on TV but I do enjoy a good film. I mix it up at least with a lot of bike riding and am usually up for a good trek to somewhere interesting (Like the giant whale in Arcata!). It takes me a while to get going in the morning if I don't have any obligations but nothing gets me up and makes me feel good like going out to volunteer for something.

I can't host right now as I am about to move to the east coast but if I find myself in a good spot in NY hopefully I will. Drop me a line if you are in the city too! I'll be eager to meet some new people and make friends.

PHILOSOPHY

Everything a circle, you get what you put in.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By giving people insider information about fun things to do in my hometown of Redding or Arcata, CA. Joining those traveling when I can and trying to encourag the growth of a CS culture in the North State through groups and word of mouth. CS has given me the chance to walk baby goats in San Francisco, tour the largest bar in Belgium, walk the coast of ireland in the company of sheep, and a lot of other memorable times, I'd like to give back what I can.

Interests

I'd like to see more of the US, I haven't been to many other then the west coast and would love to meet people in all of them to have real memories replace the stereotypes in my head.

I like to dance a lot but only have three types under my belt, the nervous "Hitch" dance, the moonwalk and a list of crappy dance moves that I secretly can't wait to brake out on the dance floor like: "The Pepper Grinder", "The Shopping Cart", "The Lawn Sprinkler", the "Canoe" and couple others.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm really into collage video right now like "Off the Air", I'm looking forward to learning new and creative transition techniques like those in OTA. I'm trying to catch up on big names of film making like Fillini, Kirisowa, Herzog too to get a better perspective on the history and future of film. I'm really enjoying a string of really bizzare Japanese films from Japan too like "Survive Style 5 Plus" and "Funky Forest". Thats shits crazy. Like really crazy. I like it.

Digging showgaze, experimental, folk and electronica right now..

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Grand Canyon during a rain storm was very pretty and Chako Canyon in NM was a site to see but tmrw in New Orleans may top them both. With some CSers we'll get to see a big building get explosively demolished! I'll report back!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to cook in the ground, make a stellar omelet (in my opinion), make a re-fabricated book journal and If we are in my area, I can teach you how to use natural herbs, make shelter, start a fire, make tea, bread (takes a while), soup, fishing nets (takes longer), baskets (a lot longer) and combs out of native gathered materials.

Countries I’ve Visited
