One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I was in freshman year at University of Miami I decided to travel with my bicycle. I started the journey at Miami, Florida and made a round trip to Charleston, South Carolina. Back then I did not know about couchserfing but I had my own plans in order to save money for the trip. I called many churches and pastors on the way and asked if they would be willing to offer a space for me and many were generous and accepted my request of staying there just for one day. Knowing church pastors opened up many other opportunities to know other church people in different cities on the way to journey. And they were also willing to offer a space for me. I stopped over many Korean community churches and whenever I got to their houses they welcomed me with delicious dinner and encouragement. It is still hard for me to explain this warm welcoming and generosity. I made a couple of stops at my university friend's house and stayed there for 2 or 3 days. But for the most of the days I covered about 60~70 miles of distance. Thankfully my Garmin 705 gps worked perfectly for my trip.
During different stays at churches and pastor's house I tried to help out things that was needed. When I stayed at a Korean community church on a Christmas day I remember helping them out for cooking barbecues. And of course I shared my experience of traveling with bicycle. As always whenever I stay at a guest house I keep it very clean. My bicycle trip is one of the things that I do because of the motivation and challenges that I get through reading books. Since when I was in elementary school I was hoping to do things that other explorers already have done before. So I have been reading books about people who traveled the world with bicycle and I always dreamt of doing it. Even though I only made a short trip during winter vacation, I was happy that I have done something that was very challenging.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would love to share my traveling experiences with other CS. I have been studying abroad for about six years primarily for education. However I traveled different countries during school vacation. I graduated International School(Brent Subic) in the Philiippines and went to the University of Miami for 2 years. And now I am a transfer student at University of California San Diego(UCSD).
Another thing that I can do is teaching mathematics. I am good at numbers. I tutored university students when I was in Miami.
I can also help out with painting. I home stayed at a Jewish couple's house for 6 month. During the stay I help painting the balcony.
