About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to better the world through bettering myself - be the change you want to see!

ABOUT ME

I have traveled all over the US (more on the west side), currently I live in South Dakota. Not from here, or from anywhere for that matter (moved too much to develop roots growing up), but I've spent more time here than anywhere. And my children (two amazing boys, 6 and 9) have most of their family here, so I guess it's home.. for now ;-)
I'm a hobbiest/philosopher/artist/entrepreneur/philanthropist. I'm "old-school" (or so I've been told), and I definitely feel I was born in the wrong era. Simple is how I like my life, as few distractions as possible. I enjoy reading, playing board games, cards, and I like to tell myself in good at holding a conversation.
Everything I have is at your disposal, what little there is. God's greatly blessed my life with couchsurfing, and I like to give in turn (no, I won't try to convert you - to each their own).
Sometimes the schedule of another couchsurfer or two may coincide with your visit, but I try to always forewarn. I also bring home random hitchhikers from time to time lol. I never offer to host more than I have capacity for though, and so far no one has had to share a room with a stranger (aside from me, but if you're worried about strangers why are you couchsurfing?)
I'm very hands on and DIY, and I love to share what I know. I'm also always eager to learn more and brainstorm ideas. I'm very into self-sustainment, so anything along the lines of that I love. My dream is to one day (hopefully soon) own my own piece of land, fully off-grid and self-sustained. I figure if I have a place to sleep and food to eat, I need nothing else.
As far as the area, I love this most I think out of everything I've seen. There's a lot to do here, if you got the time. We have a little bit of city life, mostly during the summer. But we have a plethora of outdoor activities to do year round!
Anyways, if you feel you'd enjoy a stay at my humble abode, or just want to meet up, please feel free to send me a request.
Safe travels - hope to see you in the beautiful Black Hills!

PHILOSOPHY

So many... I suppose this sums it up best...

Don't allow time to fill you - fill your time.

Understand balance; money does not equal success.

Only allow those you choose to be around you. If the company you keep causes unhappiness you are to blame.

Abstain from boredom, never complain.

Take responsibility for your actions.

Earn your keep; dues aren't paid, past tense - dues get paid, each and every day. You are only worth the contribution you make.

No job is too menial, you are not entitled to anything but the fruits of your own labor.

Ask questions; question everything.

A wise man will learn more from a foolish question than a fool will learn from a wise answer.

Failure is normal and common - accept it and grow from it; the only people who never fail are those who never try.

Be clear and certain about what you want (and don't want) for your life; focus on it, act on it.

Volunteer - action brings opportunity.

Make others happy - you attract what you project.

Communicate; control your ego.

Confidence trumps arrogance. Focus on the solution - not the problem.

Be humble, admit to your mistakes and shortcomings.

Set high standards for yourself, face challenges boldly.

Focus on the positive, forget the negative.

Finish what you start.

Allow personal complexity; get reacquainted with your WHOLE being - physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual.

Welcome all information, embrace knowledge.

Accept obstacles as building blocks instead of road blocks.

Be the change you want to see.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Was backpacking around for a while a few years back. Met a cool guy at Wal-Mart who introduced me to this site (he was a member, can't remember his name now though). Gave me a place to stay for the night, fed me well, and gave me a ride to the next town on my route in the morning. One of the best people I've met, and I want to pass my experience along as much as possible.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't have much in the way of "favorites" - I try to find the beauty in everything. But I guess I listen to mostly oldies and blues, don't watch much TV; favorite book is The Bible, and I've devoured a cornucopia of research materials about an unmentionable amount of subjects. I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a roof, and four walls. Not much for insulation in those walls (it's a really old house), but I do my best to maintain an acceptable interior climate. There's a fully functional bathroom, and a fully functional kitchen (no microwave, small oven space). I make my own wine, so I may have some of that available too.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I don't have much, but mi casa es su casa
