About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Meet interesting people, travel a bit, and have a good time. I'm working on becoming certified to be a clinical laboratory scientist, and always trying to get a little better at playing guitar.

ABOUT ME
I currently live in a co-op in Berkeley, CA. I studied molecular toxicology at UC Berkeley, before leaving my job to travel for a bit. I like watching movies, playing board games, staying up late talking, running, and eating. I'm a silly, mellow guy and I enjoy trying new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

What a beautiful system where we can share our homes and experiences with each other. Travelling can be a lot, but a new friend and home away from home can make all the difference.

I've couchsurfed a few times in Eastern Canada, as well as the Pacific Northwest and Denver, US and had an amazing time. I hope to be able to host more couchsurfers when I am able to, either in Berkeley, CA or elsewhere.

Interests

I like to read and draw and am trying to get better at guitar. I enjoy listening to music, cooking, slacklining, hiking, and seeing and experiencing cool, new things. I also love to play chess!
I love animals and science: talk to me about cell biology or astrophysics, population genetics or AI --I'm down to discuss!

Music, Movies, and Books

For books, I'm a fan of Vonnegut and Kerouac and I love the Chucks (Klosterman and Palahniuk). The Phantom Tollbooth and The World Without Us shaped my thinking when I was little and Eating Animals changed my thinking when I was bigger. Ask me what I've read recently!

Music: Rock and roll! Some names in my head: The Kinks, Matt and Kim, Tame Impala, The Go! Team, Bob Dylan, Tune-yards, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Flaming Lips, Blink-182, The Offspring, Cake, The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, and Spoon. But show me your music, I want to hear it all.

Some movies I've enjoyed: The Shawshank Redemption, 12 Angry Men, Wet Hot American Summer,The Princess Bride, City of God, Zoolander, Groundhog Day.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to cook dinner (vegan and gluten free) for ~60 people every Sunday-- wow! One time I hiked a 2-week trek in sneakers because I forgot my hiking boots at home. Whoops! More recently, I worked full time with a long commute while taking classes on nights/weekends-- amazing!

Teach, Learn, Share

If you have any interests in medical science, toxicology, or food.
I've also live in cooperative housing for years, so I have a bunch of experience with living cooperatively, sustainably, and democratically. I also like talking about hypothetical situations.

I've got a little bit of guitar skill now, but I'm always hungry for more. I'd love some pointers if you make music at all, and I'd happily teach what I know. Also happy to share a good story, a joke or a magic trick.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A beautiful North Berkeley house in a quieter neighborhood. We have wonderful folks who live here and stay here with all sorts of stories, things, and future-experiences to share.
