About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Husband, father, businessman living in South Africa; NB. SOMETIMES THIS SITE SAYS I AM SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN IN PORT ELIZABETH. IF YOU ARE READING THIS, I AM LOGGED IN AT HOME IN PORT ELIZABETH, EASTERN CAPE!
ABOUT ME
I love travelling and meeting new people as well as seeing the fascinating places where they live.... show me YOUR life! I like to travel to have things DIFFERENT... If I wanted things the 'same' then I would have stayed at home!
VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE: We CAN ONLY HOST Fri Sat and Sun nights. Weekdays are just too hectic for us! During university vacations our younger son who is studying Civil Engineering in Stellenbosch comes home, and takes over the couch!
PHILOSOPHY
Life is not a dress rehersal.... this is the real thing!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I AM ONLINE, OR NOT, IN PORT ELIZABETH.... IGNORE WHAT THE SITE SAYS!!
Had a very successful first "surf" in Nov 2010 in Germany, and while I was surfing the couch, got my first request to host at my home!
So, welcome to Port Elizabeth!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Surfed with Michael in Duisburg, Germany Nov 2010.
Was a wonderful aspect to what would have been a lonely business trip. Staying with Michael and meeting his friends and colleagues was much better than staying alone in an hotel room!
Have hosted Silvio from Brazil for two nights, had Inge over for dinner and now making friends with Yousef from Iran who has come to study at nelson mandela University in Port Elizabeth.
Met Inge from Germany, currently working in South Africa, also Lisa from Taiwan/Singapore/USA also working in South Africa, down in Cape Town.Have hosted Hanna and Timo and Tinno and Ivon
Hosted Mark and Viki from Belgium, and Ed Noon from England. Also hosted a successful Bring and Braai @ my home during a howling gale with a power failure (this IS Africa!)
Got to know Pietro from berlin Germany - he was doing a voluntary internship and stuck at his place of work/accom. Our family took him in and he hit "party month" and had several occasions to meet other SA and other nationality young people around the outdoor fires. He also brought us our wettest winter for many years.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro; love to skydive (three jumps) did the highest bungee in the world but the most adrenalin ever was hiring a car in Germany where the steering wheel is on the "wrong" side and people drive on the "wrong " side of the road! Hectic, and intense focus required!
Teach, Learn, Share
I have a wide range of experience in construction, woodwork, woodturning, design and similar stuff. Skills I have include aluminium welding, cooking and building design.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Local cuisine....particularly wild game meat (venison) and ostrich.
I have a good knowledge of the local area and surrounding parts and can help you with your planning!
