ABOUT ME

My name is Wilson Slader and I have been blessed and cursed with the travel bug. I travel as much as I can and love meeting new people and discovering new places. I graduated from Champlain College in 2013 with a degree in Social Work and have been working in restaurants since I was 14. I Have been traveling and working as a kitchen consultant and chef while also trying to pursue a career in photography.

I was recently traveling/ living/ working in Vietnam and South East Asia for over a year and have returned to Burlington, Vermont. I currently live in a very basic apartment and have an available futon. Nothing glamorous but I make up for it with hospitality, and knowledge of the area and can connect you with anything you may need, be it travel advice, rides, and much more.

Love meeting new people, and as a traveler I appreciate having a place to rest and feel at home. I want to provide that while meeting fellow travelers.

Interesses

I am attracted to both the beauty as well as the roughness of places. I am a Learner first, a Chef second, and a photographer third. I also love playing basketball and anything stimulating. I do a lot of volunteering and hope to travel around the world while learning from others and helping and teaching where I can. I love exploring back alleys, woods, and hidden/ unique places. Looking over the Guatemala city municipal dump, knowing that people worked there and made a living off of the mountain of trash.

Lago Atitlan, Guatemala. so far the most beautiful place on earth i have seen.

Burlington Vt, sunsets.

Driving through the deserts of Mongolia and seeing the incredible terrain and clouds.

Plitvice Lake in Croatia and its incredibly clear waters.

Being held at gunpoint for accidentally crossing into the autonomous country of Abkhazia in the northern region of Georgia near the Russian boarder.

Completing the Mongol Rally, aka driving a mini car from London, UK to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Transporting a motorcycle via dugout boat through a cave to drive it through 60+ kilometers of unmarked road/foot trails through extremely rural Laos.

I studied social work with a focus in adolecense and childhood development, i speak good spanish, and i can teach english if need be, i have lots of other skills and am an eager learner.
