About Me
Life got complicated and I took a break from Couchsurfing for a while but I'm back now! I'm a pet lover, with two cats and a dog, I teach edible wild plant skills, and I'm a veterinary technician at a pet emergency and critical care facility. I love food and cooking! If you're a cyclist or motorcycle traveller, I have a secure garage basement. Cars don't fit but there's plenty of street parking.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To increase joy in the world.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I like ballads, especially the deliciously grim sort where everyone dies by the end. Celtic (Altan, The Bothy Band, Eileen Ivers, Solas (new line-up, and old line-up), British Folk (Fairport Convention, Nic Jones, Steeleye Span, Martin Carthy, Waterson:Carthy), Kate Rusby, Tim Minchin, Voltaire, assorted world folk, Wierd Al, JoCo, Corb Lund, That One Guy.
Movies: Winged Migration, anything by Studio Ghibli, The LOTR Trilogy, most Monty Python, Tampopo, The Last Unicorn, Four Rooms, The Commitments, Bend It Like Beckham, The Black Stallion, Clerks I & II, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Strictly Ballroom, Bride and Prejudice, Pride and Prejudice.
Literature:
Titles:
Gormenghast, LoTR, the Foxfire Books, A Canticle For Leibowitz, World War Z, The Innkeeper's Song, Tristram Shandy, Ender's Game, The Omnivore's Dilemma, The Compassionate Carnivore.
Authors include but are not limited to: Gerald Durrell, Mary Renault, Neal Stephenson, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, some of the Brontes, Rumer Godden, Robin Hobb, Robin McKinley, Rudyard Kipling, Peter S. Beagle, Garth Nix, Bernd Heinrich, David Rackoff, Robin McKinley, David Sedaris, Stephen Jay Gould, Daniel Quinn, Tom Brown Jr., Carl Sagan.
I'm slowly cataloging my library on Google Books, but have hundreds to go. I rarely leave a used book store empty handed and whenever I see an old favorite on a thrift store shelf wedged between a Reader's Digest Condensed Piece of Crap For Lazy People, and "God's Messages to You", I almost have to rescue it. Then it becomes part of my lending library of duplicates, so that I can safely share my favorites without risking a friendship over a lost book (Yes, I love my books. I hate losing them).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One October my ex and I rode a motorcycle from Tulsa to Maine and back again. We hiked in the Adirondacks and ate amazing food in Montreal.
What I Can Share with Hosts
