About Me

Hello!
My name is Shane and I've been participating with Couchsurfing for 10+ years. Some of my best and longest lasting friendships were born out of Couchsurfing.

I lived in Minneapolis for about 10 years, went on tour with a band (as the manager, I don't play music) for about 6 month, then moved to New Orleans, where I lived for 5 years. Now I'm in Denver, CO.

Some of my favorite things:
- Spooky Horror Stuff
- Live Music (just about any genre - literally)
- Art of all kinds
- Supporting causes I believe in

I support human rights and respect for every person. If you do not support the LBTQ+ community, Black Lives Matter, or a woman's right to choose what to do with her body, I kindly ask that you do not request to stay in my home.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been a Couchsurfing member for a long time, and some of the most important people in my life have come from this platform. It really wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Couchsurfing has shaped my life path.

Some of my greatest friends today are people who I have hosted or who have hosted me. On one special occassion, I even hosted Neil Gaiman as a couchsurfing guest.

When I went on tour with them, we used Couchsurfing to find places to stay. Some of them were rough, and some of them were incredibly hospitable and awesome.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like exploring new forms of art . My favorite films, despite my fancy art degree, are Ryan Reynolds romantic comedies. (Just Friends and Chaos Theory). I don't think I can pick a favorite book but I love exploring new authors. I love finding books that do something non traditional with the medium. (Ship of Theseus, House of Leaves, etc.) As for music, I don't understand my own musical tastes and have a hard time saying what I do and don't like. My favorite song is usually one I heard last week for the very first time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once made a video for April Fools that racked up hundreds of thousands of views, and was featured in at least one major music magazine. It was for a fake Spotify product called "Spotify Vinyl," The idea was a green vinyl record that you would put on your record player, and you could use Bluetooth to cast any song to it.

It was DUMB. That was the point. It's the sound compression of digital streaming with the inconvenience of Vinyl.

But the best part - nobody doubted that it was, at the very least, a video produced by Spotify itself.

One article said, "You know you’ve got too much money when your April Fool’s fake promo video has production values on par with Batman v. Superman."

It was the most complimenting insult I've ever received. I shot the video for no money, in my backyard, with props from my bedroom, and help from a few friends. I literally hand painted a vinyl record green.

Probably my creative peak as far as pranks will ever go.

Teach, Learn, Share

I don't know what tangible resume-style skills I can impart on anyone, but I can you show you how around!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories, I love to cook and I love to connect. If you want to spend time with someone that values real connections and has a skill for really seeing people, then I'd love to spend some time with you.
