About Me

Hello there! I'm an energetic and adventurous musician/artist from Cape Town in South Africa. I was born with a deep sense of curiosity and wonder at the world and life as I have known it, as well as a great love for the places and the people and the stories I have encountered on my travels through my country and continent of my birth and beyond!

The past 15 years of my life have involved a lot of passion for creativity (musical performance, composition and production with several awesome bands, poetry, prose and songwriting, drawing, etc) as well as a lot of learning about the world and myself and the endless possibility that is human life!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have travelled throughout the countries of Southern Africa (as well as a few other, more distant places) and, as beautiful as it all has been, I needed something more. Europe was calling my name and I wanted to make the most of my travelling experience i.e. meeting friendly and open minded people who know and love the places I will be visiting. Couchsurfing seemed like the perfect tool for accomplishing this and, well, here I am.

Interests

Books - I am a totally dedicated reader and have been for longer than I can remember. My primary interests in this regard fall under the basic domains of philosophy, history, science in general and, of course, poetry. I do make time for some fiction (Science Fiction and classical literature usually!) but I suppose i prefer to be informed than entertained. On the other hand, the difference between fiction and non-fiction is, on some level at least, an arbitrary one so so don't take the distinctions too seriously - I read what interests me.

Music and the Arts - I come from a very musical family and have been composing and performing and creating, as well as absorbing and consuming, from an early age. I love music and I want to hear more and make more and more and more. Until I die. I also draw pretty little pictures quite a bit.

Permaculture - When i'm at home I love to tend to my vegetable garden. I love worm farms and compost bins and am busy researching aquaponic agriculture which I hope to implement at home once I'm done travelling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - If it sounds good, it IS good! I don't do favourites here, there is simply too much to choose from. I have a wide range in tastes: Classical, Jazz, Punk, Hip Hop, Experimental and Progressive shit,
PsyTrance, Soul, Rock n Roll, The Blues... the list goes on and on and on.

Films - I prefer documentaries, to be honest, but I am often partial to a well crafted gangster classic, true crime thriller or detective story. I'm also into some arty nonsense. I dont often do comedy.

Books - Phillip K Dick, Chomsky, Fukuyama, Zizek, Asimov, Murakami, Nietzsche, Orwell, Alistair Reynolds, Tolkein, Dostoevsky, Voltaire, Delueze and Guattari, are a few old and new favourites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Performed, composed, recorded and toured for 11 years with an amazing South African ska band called Captain Stu.

Helped start a Food Not Bombs chapter in Cape Town, feeding homeless people.

Took a trip into the unknown with a guitar in my hand and a light in my eye.

Many other things which I will not mention here.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach guitar if anyone is interested.

I can discuss many historical, philosophical and political ideas. I think about these things a lot and am always up to share and learn.

I guess, at the momeb I would like to learn how to speak better German by I would love to learn a few more languages as well as new disciplines, aspects of culture and the human intellect. There is so much to discover and to be challenged by.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my music with hosts as I am never happy too far from my guitar.

I make a great soup. Try me.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Botswana, Germany, Israel, Jordan, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe
