ABOUT ME

Born and raised in Calgary, I love the mountains and am outside whenever possible. Climbing, hiking, surfing, backcountry skiing, XC skiing - I love it all! Except ice climbing, maybe.

I got the travel bug hard after spending 4 months backpacking solo through SE Asia when I finished high school. Since then, I've traveled extensively through Eastern Europe, Costa Rica, patches of Western Europe (including a summer living in London, England).

I'm currently on a leave of absence from my professional gig as an environmental consultant. I spent the winter at a heli lodge, and the summer mostly climbing and surfing on the west coast of Canada. It was basically a 4 month long road trip and it was pretty stellar.

Now I'm headed to Berlin, to soak up the arts and music scene. I'm looking for creative inspiration, to channel my inner Hemmingway and meet my tribe of fellow adventurer-poets.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is not a dress rehearsal - but neither is it a play. No-one is going to applaud from the wings if you get through the whole thing without a single mistake.

I have surfed in Europe and Canada, and when I have something like a fixed address I can't wait to host. It's like hitchhiking - got to pay it forward.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Stayed for a week on the floor of a Paris apartment about the size of my bedroom at home... and absolutely loved it!

Music: Lucinda Williams, the XX, Bon Iver, Tom Waits, Ryan Adams (not to be confused with Bryan Adams), Dragonette, Jenny Lewis, Ladyhawke, Emmy Lou Harris, Santogold, Hey Ocean!, Leonard Cohen, and guilty pleasures include Katy Perry and Rhianna.

Books: I go through books at a pretty fast clip. Favorites include History of Love, Unbearable Lightness of Being, Twilight series (yeah I know), Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Alchemist, and most things by Nick Hornby.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Pretty much every morning, I have my coffee and I think to myself, "This is the most amazing cup of coffee ever." I am addicted.
