About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To finish my novel.

ABOUT ME

I am a writer looking for new experiences to hear about, write about, and participate in. Most of all, I am looking to experience cultures that I am unaccustomed to, the intrigues of everyday life foreign and unimaginable to me but mundane to others.

In addition to writing, I also enjoy cooking and eating various foods. I am writing and recording a cooking show for youtube, and hope to open a restaurant one day. I especially love pastries, sweets, and hamburgers.

Lastly, I really enjoy running. I run regularly and far, and have run five marathons with plans to run many more in the future. I would love to go for a long run as a means of acquainting myself with a new city.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am pretty new to couchsurfing, though my sister is a big fan and participant. She is much more a traveler than I am, and she tells me wonderful stories about all the people she meets. It is difficult for me to host because I have roommates, but I am excited to meet new people and share interesting stories.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchsurfed with my sister twice, once in the Caribbean, another time in Japan. My sister is quite the traveler and I get to visit her wherever she goes. She is a really great host; I think I get preferential treatment as her brother, but it looks like she is just as nice to everyone according to her testimonials.

Interests

Writing, reading fiction, having interesting conversations with new people, food, cooking, eating, running.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite writer is Vladimir Nabokov and have read most of his books. It is not his much-admired prose that I like so much, but his love of riddles, games, and wordplay that I enjoy. Other writers I really love include James Joyce, Jorge Luis Borges, Flann O'Brien, Martin Amis, and Jose Saramago.

I have very varied taste in music, ranging from American indie pop (the shins, vampire weekend, built to spill, pavement, strokes, etc.) to country (flying burrito brothers) to british pop (blur, arctic monkeys, pete doherty), and classical (I play the violin and especially enjoy violin concertos.)

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Dominica, Japan, Martinique, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Taiwan

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
