About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To conquer New Zealand from the fjords of the West Coast to the sheep you can find even in downtown Auckland.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is that if it isn't working out it will. When you are having trouble getting out of the rushing panic of uncertainty, just do whatever will distract your mind long enough for you to sidestep out. Even if it's watching the same episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia for the third week in a row, if you feel better afterward then it doesn't matter that other people think you're wasting your time.

Interests

I'm interested in meeting people that have a story to tell. I don't know if I do quite yet, but I'll fake it until I do and either way I'm fun to get a beer with.

Music, Movies, and Books

Darron Aronofsky films. That dude can tell a story. Judd Apatow movies because they unfold the inner man-ness of the American under 30 year-old. The Jungle Book, enough said.

I will listen to anything one time in front of other people. Later, I'll try to give it the ever-important second listen. Things in the rotation: Wilco's Sky Blue Sky and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, REM, Bruce Springsteen's earlier stuff, The Band (up to Cahoots), Pete Yorn's musicforthemorningafter (late night driving classic), Kings of Leon's Only By the Night (a rock classic), and Slick Rick (great voice, flow, and storyteller).

Don't read The King of Methleham. It's a dumb book. I have finally finished David Copperfield, A Farewell to Arms, and a good deal of Robert Cheever short stories. I keep coming across Murakami and while I've never read him, take it as a sign. But, if you want the greatest book never edited and rarely read (I still haven't finished it yet), find Frank Stanford's The Battlefield Where the Moon Says I Love You. True poetry. I'd love to read to you from mine.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent spring break of my last year at college down in Blacksburg, VA recording a five-song demo. The smell, the lighting, the echoes, the laughs, and the bourbon are still somewhere inside me. The recordings sound hasty, at best, but I can guarantee I'll be back in the booth soon.
