About Me

CURRENT MISSION

6 degrees of separation. living life fully. living and working to sustain our planet and the living things on it.

ABOUT ME

i love people, meeting new ones that i only know for that day and having folks in my live for years/decades! i love traveling, learning from others, sharing what i know, working with kids - young ones and teenagers - and of course those adult kids in all of us! i work with teens as my job and get to learn stuff from them all the time that keeps me current and alive. i have an awesome 5 1/2 yr old who i'm enjoying helping to grow and be conscious in this crazy and wonderful world. i love to cook, play games, hike, bike, be in the water, garden, laugh, read, dance, make and listen to music, see film and plays, explore new places, people watch, make momentary connections with strangers every day, and to smell the roses. I am passionate about working with folks to make this world a more just and humane place for all. I know that probably sounds sappy but it's really a core part of who i am and how i walk and function (or at least try to) in this world in work, play, on time and off time.

PHILOSOPHY

live locally, think globally. treat others as you would want to be treated. leave this world better than you found it every day. "a luta continua"; “Whatever career you may choose for yourself - doctor, lawyer, teacher - let me propose an avocation to be pursued along with it.
Become a dedicated fighter for civil rights.
Make it a central part of your life. It will make you a better doctor, a better lawyer, a better teacher.
It will enrich your spirit as nothing else possibly can. It will give you that rare sense of nobility that can only spring from love and selflessly helping your fellow man.
Make a career of humanity.
Commit yourself to the noble struggle for human rights.
You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country and a finer world to live in.”
Martin Luther King Jr.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i'm new to this, but have wanted to be part of something like this for a long time - glad it's here now to step into. i'm looking forward to receiving folks at my home and staying with CSers as i travel. life's a little crazy right now, but this fall looking to see what some of the community events are like here in philadelphia. Who knows maybe i'll even host something!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

none so far formally through this network. I have many traveling adventures where i stayed on couches of folks I met along the way.

Interests

biking, hiking, gardening, yoga, organizing, politics, localvore, games, reading, plays, long lingering conversations with many tangents with a good friend or a new friend, cooking, working with others and learning from them, esp when they don't think they have anything to teach! a dedication to human rights and justice on all levels - civil, social, economic, political, environmental.

Music, Movies, and Books

great recent movie - the visitor.
some of my favorite books - i am an avid reader, so it's a bit hard, but here's a few: The soldier of the Great War; the Kite Runner; Shadow of the Wind.
i like a wide variety of music. especially live.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

spent an afternoon hitching to the western coast of Baja, meeting up with a local fishing family and going out with them to cast nets and exploring until we were followed by a mother and baby whale for 2 hours as we circled around playing games of chase with them. Then walked back toward the road, camped for the night and hitched a ride back into town at 4 AM. quite a 15 hour gift.

Teach, Learn, Share

i want to learn how to tango, . . . well and also improve my beginner salsa.
I can share cooking and baking skills, health education. . . i'm also pretty good at thinking through business ideas - non-profit, small business, strategies, ideas for growing, expanding, organizing.
i love jumping into a project - building, moving, painting and helping out for a bit. i like physical work. also interested in continuing to improve my carpentry skills
