Hello Couch surfers,

I was born and raised in NYC and have known the big city all my life but in January of 2019 I moved to Oaxaca, Mexico in order to be in a place where I could delve deeper into my true passion... MUSIC! In 2019 I was able to release my first EP titled Her Touch (available on Youtube, Spotify, Soundcloud, and everywhere els), perform for shows of 100+ and perform at my first music festival which was in San Cristobal de las Casas. Right now I am focused on writing the songs for my next project and delving deeper into my connection with mother earth. I am a vegan who loves to cook and am more than willingly to cook some great meals for my host and friends.

Mi nombre es Smiley Rojas-Nunez. Nací y crecí en Nueva York y vivi en la gran ciudad toda mi vida, hasta enero de 2019. En enero del 2019 me mudé a Oaxaca, México, para estar en un lugar donde pudiera profundizar en mi verdadera pasión ... ¡MÚSICA! En 2019 pude lanzar mi primer album titulado "Her Touch" (disponible en Youtube, Spotify, Soundcloud y en todas partes), presentar mi musica en varios bars y presentar en mi primer festival de música que fue en San Cristóbal de las Casas. En este momento estoy enfocado en escribir las canciones para mi próximo proyecto y profundizar en mi conexión con la madre tierra. Soy un vegano al que le encanta cocinar y estoy más que dispuesto a preparar excelentes comidas para mi anfitrión y amigos.

Interests

I dance! I dance Salsa, Bachata, Merengue and Forro. I have even taught Salsa in the past. Because I want to focus on writing music I don't see myself moving around too much but am always down for adventures. I am a friendly person as my name implies and love learning about the cultures of others. I have Dominican roots and have been fortunate to travel to 14 different countries which has allowed me to.

I am also into meditation and am trying to deepen my mediation practice so I see myself spending my days doing some of that too.

¡Yo bailo! Bailo salsa, bachata, merengue y forro. Incluso he enseñado salsa en el pasado. Debido a que quiero concentrarme en escribir música, no me veo moviéndome demasiado, pero siempre estoy deprimido por aventuras. Soy una persona amigable como mi nombre lo indica y me encanta aprender sobre las culturas de los demás. Tengo raíces dominicanas y he tenido la suerte de viajar a 14 países diferentes, lo que me ha permitido.

También estoy en meditación y estoy tratando de profundizar mi práctica de mediación, así que me veo pasando mis días haciendo algo de eso también.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2015 I lived in Nicaragua for 6 months and taught free salsa lessons twice a week in the small town that I was living in. I would have 50 to 60 participants come to every class.

En 2015, viví en Nicaragua durante 6 meses y enseñé clases de salsa gratis dos veces por semana en el pequeño pueblo en el que vivía. Tuve entre 50 y 60 participantes en cada clase.

Teach, Learn, Share

Meditation has done alot for me. After my first 10 day vipassana course I gave up drinking and became vegetarian as well as decided that I wanted to leave everything behind and try to make music the center of my life. After my second course I decided to go vegan. Vipassana meditation has provided me with an opportunity to go deep into myself and try to better understand what it is that I truly want from life and what it is that does and doesn't make me happy. I think meditation can provide benefits to any and everyone.

La meditación ha hecho mucho por mí. Después de mi primer curso de vipassana de 10 días, dejé de beber y me hice vegetariano, tambien decidí que quería hacer un cambio total y hacer la música el centro de mi vida. Después de mi segundo curso, decidí volverme vegano. La meditación Vipassana me ha brindado la oportunidad de mejor entenderme mí mismo y tratar de comprender mejor qué es lo que realmente quiero de la vida y qué es lo que me hace y no me hace feliz. Creo que la meditación puede proveer beneficios a todos.
