About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see more of the beauty of the Earth, and allow the variety, colour and beauty of the world to wash over me.

ABOUT ME

I'm a friendly guy who likes to see new things, have conversations and laugh. I am always interested in sharing what I know and learning from others, and I try not to take life too seriously.

PHILOSOPHY

Right now, I'm trying to enrich myself with new experience and build the life I want for myself. This includes discovery, learning, novelty and new friends. Socrates said that an unexamined life is not worth living, and I agree.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm currently surfing, but will hopefully be able to host in the not too distant future.

Interests

I love reading, discussion, research, going out, walking, seeing new sights, relaxing, exploring, laughing, eating and making friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love relaxed low tempo music, anything with a world music ingredient and good female vocals. I like a wide range of books, but have a soft spot for clever alternative histories. I enjoy lots of movies, but particularly like films with a strong philosophical element or point of innovation. I am also partial to frivolous action movies and science fiction. I also enjoy a socially complex television series.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I saw inside the Christ the Saviour cathedral in Moscow, I was pretty amazed. I also climbed to the top of York Minster cathedral even though I have vertigo. I climbed right to the top of Granada on a walking tour, and that was also a view I won't forget. There was also this one perfect winter morning in Riga that I'll never forget with pristine snow everywhere. I recently enjoyed visiting Portland, Oregon in the US, an amazingly diverse city.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a historian, a medievalist and I know quite a lot about research and culture in general. I am also a tutor and I can copy edit and proofread things. I am also pretty good with advice about knowledge-based projects in general.
