About Me

Hello, lovely peeps.
I don't really know how to define myself. I studied philosophy and Lithuanian philology.
But here is a list of things that I enjoy: philosophy (obviously), literature, music, cinema, photography, dancing, writing, handicrafts, playing guitar, singing etc. I know the list sounds super vague and generic, but I'm honestly very excited about arts and ideas in different shapes. Right now I am working as an accountant because it gives me a lot of free time to do other things on the side. Among those other things are singing in a punk band, volunteering with refugees and migrants, editing articles on social and political issues, working in a labour union etc.
I'm married. My husband Misael is from Venezuela. Here is a link to his profile:

We have a black cat Mocca that we love so very much.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To me Couchsurfing was always a "people against corporations and greedy landlords" thing, just like hitchhiking. I believe that budget travel is a fun and adventurous way to rebel against capitalist system. I did couchsurfing before I even knew Couchsurfing. I host people from this platform and outside of it whenever I am able to. I don't really care if people just want a cheap place to stay - as long as they are respectful and don't do anything creepy I am happy to share my home with those who need it. I think Couchsurfing is a great place to learn about kindness and generosity.
Other than that, I met many beautiful souls thanks to Couchsurfing. Majority of them, sadly, I will never see again, but the memories we shared will always warm my heart. There are a few travelers and hosts that I am still in touch with. If it was not for this platform, I would have never met them, and that's the motivation to continue using it :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: 60s stuff, indie folk and rock, hip hop, traditional music from all around the world, classical music and much more. Pixies, Sufjan Stevens, Sun Kil Moon, JPEGMAFIA, Bulgarian female choirs, Bach, Death Grips, you name it.

Movies: some of my favorite directors are Lars von Trier, Haneke, Godard, Tarkovsky, John Waters, Lynch, Jarmusch, Kaurismaki, Harmony Korine, Kusturica, Roy Anderson etc. I used to be quite snobish with cinema, only watching art house and classics, but thanks to my husband I am a bit more relaxed right now. Some of my favorites are Arizona Dream, Time of the Gypsies, Naked, The Piano Teacher etc. etc.

TV shows: Twin Peaks, Sopranos, Mr. Robot, Stranger Things, Euphoria, Sex Education, Breaking Bad etc.

Books: philosophy and critical theory, classical literature, sometimes ancient literature and poetry. Genet's "Our Lady of the Flowers", poetry by Allen Ginsberg, Tolkien stuff, "Gender Trouble" by Judith Butler, Deleuze and Guattari, old Japanese Haiku etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Finished my bachelors studies (it was a struggle and I'm very proud of myself).
Hiked on Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route in Japan all by myself (and made a short movie about it!)
Learned to play shakuhachi from a real Buddhist priest (unfortunately, I'm not a very good student and forgot the little bit I knew, but I still have my instrument and it's waiting to be picked up again).
Attended two Butoh lessons with late Yoshito Ohno, one of the first butoh dancers.
Got some of my poems published.
Went on a motorcycle on a highway to San Francisco and then saw the sun setting into the Pacific Ocean from a cliff.
Got married to my Venezuelan husband during the pandemic when all borders were closed (it was like living a novel by Kafka if you know what I mean).
More or less overcame depression and quit medication :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share conversations on books, movies, ideas, music and politics, I can tell you some stories from my travels, I can listen to your stories, I can sing you some Lithuanian folk songs, I can play some song with a guitar (if there is one around), I can cook something delicious.
