Über mich
CURRENT MISSION
To get lost in a way that lets me find the city
ABOUT ME
I am presently enrolled in NYU's program in Humanities and Social Thought . I was born and raised in the Phoenix area, but went to my undergrad in Tucson, at the University of Arizona. While I love the desert and its aesthetics, I am very eager to leave Arizona's hateful politics behind. I've taken this past year mostly off (I tutor and have been educating myself on a number of different fields, most importantly those connected to Social Justice work), but the two years prior to that found me teaching English in South Korea, on a Fulbright grant. I love literature of all forms, but especially visual literature - I spend much of my free time in movie theatres. I am a scholar at heart, and my passions include Russian literature, literary affect, design and composition, and awful puns. I tend to be quiet a little quiet in the early stages of a friendship, but once I know you better and am a little more comfortable with you, I open up rather quickly.
PHILOSOPHY
Laughing is one of my favourite things to do, but kindness is one of my favourite things to be. I like to be an interesting person with cool stories, but it is more important to me that I be gracious and accommodating to people of different backgrounds than my own.
Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
In the past, I've been happy to be a host (I've not yet been a surfer), but circumstances have prevented me from participating in that way for the last year and a half. I look forward to being able to re-open my living space to surfers.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've had a lovely time as a host. No bad guests yet!

Musik, Filme und Bücher
Movies: A Bittersweet Life, Thirst, Secret Sunshine, There Will Be Blood, The Night of the Hunter, In The Mood For Love, The Mirror
... I like a lot of movies. Maybe we can talk about them when we meet!
Authors: PG Wodehouse, Nikolai Gogol, Anton Chekhov, Shirley Jackson, Douglas Adams, Donald Barthelme
Generally, comedy and horror are my genres of choice, in addition to most anything of Russian origin.
Music: Rishloo, Gazpacho, Pure Reason Revolution, Fair to Midland, Tom Waits
I'm open to just about anything, though I do prefer dense music to most of the stuff that's on the radio.
Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe
I've been to three different wonders of the world and have skydived. I've driven through the Rocky Mountains. I've seen a whale shark from below. I've also taught Korean students to find grace even when they don't succeed.
Lehren, lernen, teilen
I can teach some ESL (as well as the basics of a couple other languages), as well as a decent amount of critical theory. My specialty, though, is in writing creative non-fiction, and I could find no greater pleasure than sitting down with you to talk about writing and how it enters your life. If you want to workshop, I'd be happy to do that too.
