A PhD scholar finishing up my PhD thesis. My most recent updates are that I have started learning Spanish on Duolingo and reading and writing Bengali poetry. I have grown up in India and in 2021, I lived in the USA for a fellowship at Yale University.

I have been into Vipassana meditation lately, and it has been one of the best things in my life. The simple techniques of breathing and being aware have brought me closer to my inner instincts. It's a wonderful journey of developing a broad sense of equanimity, practising Vipassana has reduced my tendency to react to any provocation leading to a generation of anger, and it's so liberating to have a grasp over oneself. I have still a long way to go, I would be happy to share more about Vipassana if it interests you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Thanks to my academic career so far, I have undertaken several fieldworks and which have created an inclination to stay with the local communities rather than established outlets of accommodation. I prefer the experience of living like the community, which helps in developing my personality and thinking, along with creating a conducive environment for interaction. I have been blessed with friendships which have taken me to remote corners of Northeast India. Through Couchsurfing I hope to extend the similar experiences elsewhere in the world.

I can share my experiences of exploring Calcutta, show people the usual tourist spots and the unusual spots worthy of attraction. I can elaborate on the history and urban restructuring of the city. Likewise I can share my understanding of Northeast India through its historical formation through India's partition and its conflict prone journey. Through my current work I can explain the ongoing changes taking place in the region and what it means for the indigenous communities living in Northeast India.
