About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to make you laugh

ABOUT ME

note to weird guys: I AM MARRIED. I am NOT interested in your solicitations. That being said....

My biggest passion in life is the environment. I'm not a hippie or a tree hugger, but I care deeply for the world and am terrified by what is happening. I try my best to be environmentally friendly with everything I buy and do, and am very conscious about what I waste. I am currently plotting how to save the world... if you have any advice, I would love to hear it.

There are so many things I still want to change about myself. But that doesn't mean I am not completely happy with who I am. It just means I am more eager to learn from other people, and to emulate things in their lives that I respect or want for myself.

PHILOSOPHY

Laughter fuels my soul. I'm not a very serious person, I sometimes laugh at my own jokes, I snort. I don't care. I don't believe in drama, and think that no matter how bad the situation might look, you can always smile.

I like getting to know the people in a new city, not just the buildings. Seeing the Eiffel Tower and Prague Castle are great and all, but a million people a day can see that. How many people can say they ate Goats brains with Kostas' cousins in Greece? Or spent the night searching for human remains in the catacombs with Adrien? Or microwaved dinner over a couple shots of polish vodka with Edouard in Toulouse? To me, meeting and getting to know someone in a place is much better than being able to flaunt your picture in front of some famous building,

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In 2007, I spent 6 months traveling through Europe. I surfed with people in England, Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Germany, Czech Republic, France and Greece. I met up with people for drinks, random forays into the unknown, island hoping adventures, dog-napping fiascos, tomb raiding, metro partying and so much more amazing craziness. CS has been the defining success to my travels, and I can't thank everyone enough for the hospitality and good times they showed me. There are so many things I have seen and done that blow my mind, that I could never imagine doing 2 years ago. CS and the wonderful people that make it possible will always have a place in my heart, and hopefully on my couch as well!

Interests

BIKES, beaches, bonfires, back-packing, cheese, cereal, the environment (and how to save it) boxed wine, tea, really good dark beer, vegetables, sculpting, scuba diving, drinking beer in the shower, Q-tips! renewable energy, laughing so hard it makes you cry, ice cream, dogs and cats and all animals for that matter, lying in the sun (preferably with sunscreen on), traveling, trees, taking things apart, tying knots in cherry stems with my tongue... butchering the english (and French) language, getting into trouble. if it's wild, extraordinary, or just stupid, there's a good chance i'm up for it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

lived.

sounds corny, but yeah, my life is amazing, mostly because of the people I have met along the way. Meet me for a couple drinks or a bike ride, and I'll give you some good stories.

I did the Bay to Breakers naked. yup, naked. I walked the famous San Francisco race with my best friend Toby completely in the nude. I'm pretty sure I can't run for president now, but it was an experience I will never forgoet (and neither will the internet, apparently).

I was detained in Belize. I had to bribe the customs officials to let me go, otherwise face time in jail (or so they said). made me think twice about the decency of man kind, and to always check your passport to make sure they stamp it!

Spent the night on a deserted beach listening to the sound of the waves and slow crackle of a dying fire, and woke up to be the first person to leave my foot prints in the sand.

Couchsurfed with Michael Edge. He was my first host ever, and will undoubtedly be the most influential. Most of us hold our first hosts dear to our hearts, as being the first person to open their homes to us... the first time we get that feeling of how amazing people really can be when we cast aside our fears and differences and just have faith in trust and love. Mike was an exceptional host, and I returned to his couch many times while I was in Scotland. I truely felt at home in his presence. On my last day with him, he told me he had cancer. Our bond had been so strong that he asked me to stay with him longer, but I had bought tickets to see my brother on his birthday. I said I would come back later. But he moved back to the US before i could return and I never saw him again. He died in December of 2007 at the age of 24. Our lives are so fleeting, so fragile, but so unbelievably beautiful. There is no time to waste your energy on being angry or regretful. I did not ask to be here, but I am going to make the best of it, and live every second of my life.

Sacrificed myself for someone I love.
