Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To expand my horizons, meet new people, learn as much as I can, explore further and deeper, enter the next phase of life with joy and great imagination, and at the end of it all, have some great stories to tell.
ABOUT ME
An inveterate nomad, with a specific form of incurable wanderlust. Passionate about sustainability, local foods, green building, the arts, and...travel! I have been to more than 45 countries, lived in Europe, New Zealand, and the Middle East, and spent a year traveling around the world with my son in 2002. Founded the alternative travel website, GoNOMAD.com (still alive...check it out!). Currently engaged in new skill building: learning Spanish, ice climbing and winter mountaineering, with the goal of returning to climb the Andes next year! Beginning a period of what I hope to be extended Gainful Nomadism.
PHILOSOPHY
"Leave the campground in better condition than you found it." Also, "Not all who wander are lost. For some, it's just a way of life."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Spread the word and spread the blankets! Host when I am not traveling and hope to surf when I am traveling!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Back in the early 1980's, I was visiting then still-Soviet Hungary. You had to stay with someone who was registered with the State (no hotels for foreigners), and my hostess/guard was an tiny, elderly woman who had a very skinny cat. I spoke no Hungarian and she spoke none of the languages I understood, but she told me a very funny story about why her cat was so skinny...in mime!!! She made a mean Goulash, and was as happy to have company as I was to have a Hungarian grandmother. Looking forward to surfing and hosting soon.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Recently did a week long kayak trip in Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. Came within 10 feet of coastal brown bears (Grizzlies!). Truly amazing!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can share outdoor fun -- wanna learn to snowshoe? Ski? Kayak? I have the toys and would be happy to show you how. I can also share some good local cooking and (in summer) organic gardening! I want to practice spanish, so if you can share that, it would be great.
