About Me

CURRENT MISSION

living happily and healthfully in the present

ABOUT ME

I'm interested in living my life fully and discovering more about this incredibly complex, diverse, ridiculously chaotic and brilliant world.

PHILOSOPHY

Stop and smell the flowers...in other countries

"If you can't get rid of the skeleton in your closet, you'd best teach it to dance."
--George Bernard Shaw

"You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing and dance, and write poems and suffer and understand, for all that is life."
--Krishnamurti

"Quand tu veux vraiment une chose, tout l'univers conspire à faire en sorte que tu parviennes à l'obtenir."
--L'Alchimiste

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed couches in Florence, Budapest, Strasbourg, Rome, Lyon, and Chauffayer

Hosted a few times, and would like to do more when I've got a more hospitable place.

Interests

I LOVE cinema...particularly Eastern/central European cinema.

Before I die I'd like to be able to speak a number of Slavic languages, Arabic, Spanish, Italian and Finnish.

I've also recently begun to experiment with contact juggling.. we'll see where it goes.

Music, Movies, and Books

Andrei Tarkovsky: "Mirror", Michelangelo Antonioni: "Blow-up", Emir Kusturica: "Black Cat, White Cat", "Time of the Gypsies", "Underground", Danis Tanovic: "No Man's Land", Srjdan Dragojevic: "Lepa Sela,Lepo Gore", Jiri Menzel: "Vesnicko ma strediskova", Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu:"Amores Perros", Julian Schnabel: "Le Scaphandre et le Papillon", "Before Night Falls", Jacques Audiard: "Un Prophete", Kieslowski: "Trois Couleurs: Bleu, Blanc, Rouge", Kassovitz: "La Haine", Charlie Chaplin "Modern Times"...

Books: Currently reading short stories by Anton Chekov. Most recently read books were Jane Eyre, Mrs. Dalloway, Madame Bovary and Anna Karenina (seems I like female heroines;)

Music: Currently listening a lot to Goran Bregovic, Esma Redzepova, John Lee Hooker, Jethro Tull, the Doors, Norah Jones, Chopin, Bach and Sibelius. Generally I'll listen anything: bhangra, folk, bluegrass, zydeco, roma, hip hop, techno, rock, experimental--or any combination of sounds.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw James Brown in his casket at the Apollo Theater. All of Harlem was waiting in line to pay their respects and boogieing to his music!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to count to 10 in Finnish, Swedish Hungarian, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian. Or how to bake chocolate chip cookies.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Mexico, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden
