ABOUT ME

I'm a Canadian currently spending my summer in Helsinki at an internship in what I consider to be the best neighborhood. At home, I work at a student newspaper and also volunteer my time at a local fashion magazine. I'm oddly passionate about print media because print is forever, right?

I eat lots of ice cream and drink way too much coffee.

PHILOSOPHY

My friends would not stop talking about how great Couchsurfing is, so here I am, surfing my way through Europe. I'm also very open to meeting up with others in Helsinki and whichever city I find myself in next.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Talking/listening/reading about Couchsuring's not really the same thing as actually doing it ... right?

Karaoke, coffee shop culture, karaoke, reading, print media, fashion, writing, film photography, live shows, biking, flowers, learning about people, places, and things, and sometimes being lazy is just fine by me.

Oh and food. I love trying new dishes and street food is easily one of the best things ever. I was looking forward to eating my way through Finland ... until I saw how expensive it was to eat out. Now I'm fine with having the occasional 1 am kebab or slice of pizza.

This is a near-impossible task. I really do appreciate most genres of music and I love discovering new artists. This list will be changing (almost daily), so I'll try to update it. I will always love the Velvet Underground, Dum Dum Girls, Beach House, Mazzy Star, and Orange Juice. I'm a fan of synth pop, post-punk, shoe gaze, minimal wave, that new strand of fun, electropop (see: Charli XCX, Solange, Sky Ferreira), hip hop (Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West), indiepop (Heavenly, Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura), girl groups, and other soft, fuzzy sounding songs that would be the perfect soundtrack to your dreams (and/or nightmares).

Right now, I'm really digging this UK producer who goes by Powell.

As for movies, books, and tv shows…

Something in the Air, Baader Meinhof Complex, Virgin Suicides, Alphaville, Jules et Jim, Royal Tenenbaums,Clueless, An Education, Drive, Mad Men, Girls.

Currently, I've been reading a lot of Murakami and Bolano. I also like Kazuo Ishiguro, Patti Smith's Just Kids, Orwell's 1984, and Sylvia Plath.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Swimming in a cenote during a trip to Mexico. I'm a terrible swimmer, but the idea of swimming in a freezing cold cave was irresistible, at that moment. I would do it again if I could.
