Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted a bit, and surfed in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Berlin and Stockholm. Couchsurfing is fantastic. I've met some of my best friends via this sleepover system. I find it so refreshing that there's this community space that's escaped the western health and safety bubble-wrap that makes it hard to be plunged into the lives of others and leave your comfort zone. Know thy neighbours, right? Otherwise you end up gravitating towards friends of friends and people who have the same opinions and similar backgrounds to you and your life will end up this big hall of mirrors that flatters your ego by echoing your own perspective back at you.

Interests

I used to make insects for a while (wasp, mosquito, spider, dragonfly, butterfly) out of the broken umbrellas Glasgow threw at me. I did an art exhibition and have been a "living statue" on multiple occasions. Well, two. Also have had some fantastic and very chilly nights with friends sleeping on foreign streets. More recently, I designed some Shakespeare-themed playing cards: https://www.frogface.net/shakespeare-index which I hope to finalise and sell soon. I also paint a lot. I would like to try stand-up comedy.

I want to meet new friends, learn more magic tricks, to tattoo, to dance salsa, to play "On the street where you live" on the guitar, to be less awkward at parties, to make Indian and Chinese food. I know, this is a lot of things I'm asking for. What do I have to give in return? Well, I'll tell you, I make some pretty good butternut squash pancakes and Irish coffees, so I think we're square.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We can have debates, we can drink morning coffee, walk the streets, get a beer, go to stand-up comedy gigs; the possibilities abound. If we're on the same kind of wave-length and we feel like it, maybe even start a project together.
