About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to be happy and meet nice people

ABOUT ME

I want to meet kind people with a sense of humour and a little touch of idealism. If they can be well-informed and open-minded, well, that's just heaven!
I feel strongly on subjects such as gender equality and equality in general, struggling against homophobia, and the respect of all humans' dignity. Which doesn't mean that I'm talking about those subjects all the time. It means that my guests, be they male or female or transgender, will all be considered able to handle a sponge for dishwashing when their turn comes, for example. I can tutor those for whom it might be a new experience! (This brings back nice memories with a Syrian friend, who washed his first dishes with me at age 28).
I basically like people who are ready to like me back. Then it's only a matter of finding fun stuff to do together.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in talking about stuff and trying to find common solutions without forgetting one's values. I like it when people are a bit special and passionate about what they do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I talk about cs to my pupils and try to show that travelling is not just for rich people.
Important information(result of previous interactions): if I was looking for a dating/hookup website, I would have found a dating/hookup website! I wouldn't troll CS!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted some interesting people. It always gives me a chance to remember the good things about my place, and it's fun.
I've lived one year in Canada and one in Germany, and I've gathered friendships there that mean more travelling. I've been visiting friends since in a few Eastern and Western European countries and a few other ones as well, such as Israel or Senegal.

Interests

I like to eat and prepare tasty food, to talk, and to share new experiences with people.
I like to swim and one of the things I really enjoy in a new country is to try to live there: the challenge of everyday tasks is stimulating, such as grocery shopping in a foreign language.

Music, Movies, and Books

Harry Potter, Birdy Nam Nam, Malcolm X, Bleach, Phillip Pullman's books...
Basically I like cultural products with stories in them, like the Mahabharata, Sherlock Holmes or the 13 and a half lives of Captain Bluebear.
I like watching TV shows, like Scrubs for instance.
I like to read, I'm very picky about the quality of sound so I don't usually go to concerts because I can't afford the ones who provide that quality.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done a lot of things one by one, like bungee jumping, seeing Northern Lights, sharing the house of a supposed former Yasser Arafat lover in the West Bank, being raided by the Israelian army at night [I'll still host Israelis, don't feel turned away] swimming with pelicans in Senegal, chipping off goats' hooves in rural Portugal... Now I've quietened down for a while, to try and discover my own country for once! I'm also longing for longer-term projects right now. However I'd be delighted to host travellers and get to meet them.

Teach, Learn, Share

French cooking is tasty because of the emphasis there is on picking great products. Then cooking becomes child's play, with some delicate sauces to enhance the taste of the ingredients without drowning it in salt, fat, chilli peppers or sugar. I like the notion of aftertaste, what lingers on in your mouth after you've had your last bite. I'm not advocating healthiness above all, only taste, don't get me wrong. I'm mostly vegetarian(except when I don't feel like it, which is seldom).

What I Can Share with Hosts

I guess what I can share is a genuine interest in people. I have a lot of opinions, but they keep changing, and I don't expect someone else to have the same. I enjoy learning about other options: other food, various styles, other opinions, new hobbies...
