About Me

I am a South African who likes to travel, I have been to 33 different countries. I joined couch surfing because I love meeting people and learning different cultures and foods.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It is easy being a tourist, seeing a country through a camera lens snapping away memories, but to truly experience a country you have to live it through the lives of its in habitants, people.

I don't visit a country, I live a country, its; sights, sounds, smells, food, culture and people.

I truly love meeting new people and sharing travel stories, I am planning to cycle round the world, and thought I would share my adventures with everyone, in return I might need to crash on your couch for a night, as I pass through your town.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a year diving all over the Red Sea on some of the most awesome dive sites in the world. I have done more than 500 dives with Sharks and more than 3000 dives in total all over the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

1993 September went to Israel worked on a Kibbutz (Ein Gev) picked Bananas for 6 hours a day, and Moshav (Rishpon) working on a combine harvester sorting potatoes, worked at bar and restaurant in Tel Aviv. Worked on a boat called the Eilat in Eilat as a crew member.

1994 January went to Egypt, did a PADI O/W diver course in Dahab. Then traveled all over Egypt for a further 2 months.

1994 March went bank to Israel worked on a another Moshav Ein Jahav, I picked Gypsophilla flowers from 4.30 in the morning until 7pm. Saved money to buy a ticket to England.

1995 Flew to England ( Worked for Republic National bank of New York in London), counting and packaging millions of dollars in all different currencies. Worked for Thames Water as a debt collector. Worked on a construction site as a labourer. Worked at Salstream Marks and Spencers distribution warehouse night shift from 10pm until 6 am loading trucks and picking orders. I was also a barman and cook at Whetherspoons Moon under water Leicester square.

I did various 3 month trips to countries around Europe while living in London.

While in the UK I traveled around, I did my advanced PADI Advancedb O/W diving course in Weymouth.

I left London in 1996 and went to Italy for 6 weeks on my way back to South Africa.

I then worked in Pretoria at Green Trees restaurant as a manager. I also worked at the Blues bar in the Tramshed as a manager.

All this time I was studying for a Commercial Refridgeration diploma. Before even graduating In got a job with Enviroware as a service and maintenance technician. This was 1997 October.

I sub contracted for them until August 2005.

While there I continued up the PADI ranks Dive master, Instructor and then I started my own dive center called Blumoon Divers in Blue hills, Kyalami where I had bought a house with a giant indoor heated pool. To compliment the dive center I started a backpackers lodge from scratch (Kyalami Backpackers).

In the mean time I also did my Commercial skippers license and European Golf Teachers federation teaching diploma and so became a Golf pro.

By early 2005 I was bored with the same old same old so I sold all I had for the second time in my life and left to Philadelphia in the USA to join Julian Krinsky School of golf to be a golf pro.

When I got back I did my CELTA course at IH in Johanneaburg, so I could teach English abroad.

I then went back to USA in May 2007 and spent 4 months there At end of August I flew back to South Africa changed my Golf bag for a scuba bag and with my newly purchased under water video camera was heading off to Egypt as a videographer.

But one month after being sent all over Egypt for little money, I took a job as a scuba instructor and Venta diving.

Did this for 6 months and then started freelancing for various dive centers the credit crunch then caused a drop in business so I left Egypt (and my third visa had expired)

I returned to South Africa in August of 2008.

Taught business English to various embassy staff and regular English to their children.

In January 2010I got a job with Retief Goosen golf academy in Polokwane as a teaching Golf pro where I taught from 7 year old girls and boys up until adults.

I did this until 2013, after which I started a new aircon business.

In March December 2012 I started a free range egg and chicken farm from scratch ran this until Jan 2015. Sold it.

Then in Jan 2015 moved to Pretoria to work for a company in Johannesburg as a supervisor. This contract just ended, so now I am selling everything I own again for the 3rd time in my life to go and explore the big wide world.

That is me in a nutshell cursed with a need to travel, blessed with the means to do it.
