About Me
ABOUT ME
Well, I truly believe that everybody is different depending on the context and that even in a year we all change more than we think we do. Our experiences change our believes and our believes change our actions. So what I am writing right now could be different in a months.
However, hopefully this one won't change. I am a philanthropist and I love getting to know other people via traveling. Which is why I love learning languages. Probably I would be pretty bad at studying a language at uni because for me the best part about a language is to actually talk to other people. I think a good way to get closer another human being or culture is through their mother tongue. Eventhough nowadays people mostly connect via English with each other, once you understand the roots of their language it is easier to understand the other one's mindset. Even though it's contradictory to the idiom "Reden ist Silber, Schweigen ist Gold."
For the rest I really like to try new things and one of the people I really respected, was Peter Scholl-Latour. Mainly because he was very erudite and well-educated but also because he had been to every country on this planets (even to some which don't exist anymore) and despite the Western believe that there is a solution for every problem he pointed out that there might not be a solution for every problem.
To end with something positive... Life is so colourful and versatile!
PHILOSOPHY
"Life is a book and those who do not travel only read one page."
Traeume nicht dein Leben, sondern lebe deine Traeume.
Live your dreams!!!
Life is like a box of chocolate you never know what you gonna get.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
At the moment I live in a student house/ studio. There is a room next to me which is sometimes free where you can stay. However, once that room is rented again it will be one room to share. I am otherwise always happy to meet couch surfers for coffee or better Belgian fries, beer and waffles :-)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I had some couch surfing experience in the UK and in China. Stayed at some places or just had coffee with people. Last year we hosted quite some couch surfers at our place and I find it very enriching mainly because of the conversations and lovely dinners together.
Interests
I love my studies.
Music, Movies, and Books
Medicus (Noah Gordon)
Kite Runner (Khaled Hosseini)
Die Glücksformel (Stefan Klein)
The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
> crossing the border to Myanmar by "walk" (that literally is written in my passport now)
> crossing the boarder from Argentina to Chile in two hours and forgetting all about it when seeing the impressive beauty of Los Andenes
> Tafelberg in Kapstad, I just really enjoyed this city
> The Chinese Wall and the Forbidden City, although I have to admit that I found the Forbidden City even more impressive. Luckily I went the steeper way on the Chinese Wall so I could have some moments for myself and really enjoy the view.
> going by metro from West Nanjing Rd a little bit further to the "suburbs" of Shanghai
Teach, Learn, Share
Already my father said "You can learn from everybody. You just have to pay attention to what he is doing." I think everybody we meet can contribute to our lives. Some people you become friends with for a life time and some people just stay for a short amount of time in your life. That's why I can enjoy the company of a lot of different people.
