CURRENT MISSION
Keeping the magic of life alive and retaining a sense of wonder
ABOUT ME
Immaterial. Superficially changeable. Transient.
I'm a bit of an odd flavour packet of aloofly intense + insatiable curiousity.
I prize running on adrenaline and can be enthusiastic, energetic and adventurous, but also highly value the capacity to be of and a emit zen energy.
I'm still very much learning the later, especially when around others, so I really appreciate when others bring a little bit of this to the table with their presence.
I previously described myself as having an affinity for welcoming the darker aspects of our human experiences, along with the light; now I would say it's less of an affinity and more of a requirement, within myself and those I give my time to. We must not deny out shadows if we are to authentically connect with others, or grow ourselves. I cannot abide my a permanent false positive facade presentation as anyone's requirement for showing up.
I often prefer writing to speaking. I'm not much for small talk, but will ramble the ears off closer friends. I love intense conversation and banter when it feels natural and comfortable.
Por que estou no Couchsurfing?
(HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING)
I don't live and breathe CS. Why? Because after having long standing experience with the community in one particular highlight US city, I realized that the nature of most casual interactions are just too frivolous for me to value as a highly introverted individual. Networking only for the sake of it, is too high an energy cost for me.
However, with the soul of an explorer, I'm usually interested in finding folks who want to do and see the same things as I do and sharing a meaningful experience in that way.
Unfortunately, even with this community at hand, it can be pretty tough to align timing and such specific goals, so I normally end up forming friendships on-the-fly on location instead.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I was first inspired to look into this community after having a positive experience staying with a friend of a friend in 2010 for a week in Montreal.
I have couchsurfed via CS in NYC, Washington DC, Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and South Dakota, but have yet to do so internationally.
Interesses
Exploration of self, world and others, feeling music and lifeforce vibrations, life sciences, alternative art, building and fixing things, ecological treasure collecting, learning how to build and maintain healthy relationships, standing still in a busy place
Músicas, Filmes e Livros
~Movies~
(*Super* Outdated List!)
The Order, Constantine, Signs, Tomb Raider, Dances with Wolves, The Chronicles of Riddick, Final Fantasy:The Spirit Within, Up
~Music~
Top genres: Metalcore, Melodic Death Metal, Industrial Goth, Instrumental Soundtracks, Blues Rock, Indie/Folk, Tribal
I can enjoy most genres in the right mood aside from hip hop, ska, and redneck rock.
Jazz is tough because the frequency/vibrations of brass instruments creates a sensation like nails on a chalkboard for me, but I try.
~Books~
So many books, so little time. I end up collecting far more than actually reading I think.
I prefer non-fiction, on anything from spirituality to genetics.
Fiction tends to be Sci-fi & Fantasy (dark, fables, hard, high, historic, mythic). I have a soft spot for animal protagonists. I will not read contemporary dramatic fiction, no matter how many people recommend a title.
My favorite fiction authors are Ray Bradbury, Frank Herbert, Ursula K LeGuin & HP Lovecraft.
Uma Coisa Incrível que Eu Fiz
I am always in awe of nature so climbing a mountain or even going to the zoo when it's quiet and appreciating the diversity of life, are experiences that resonate as amazing to me. I almost ran into a porcupine in the woods once and as mundane as that may seem, it's my favorite type of moment to live in. I sat there and watched him for quite some time before moving on. He didn't feel like talking; I didn't feel like I should pressure him.
Ensine, Aprenda, Compartilhe
I think the most apparent thing I have to share or teach is my perspective; there isn't time for a whole lot of learning in the fleeting hours of a typical CS exchange, so I think this is enough. Creative solutions; problem solving, looking at things with a new perspective and refusing to be only what we're told to be are important tools for personal growth. You can learn anything else on your own later, if you have these to draw on.
I don't expect to learn anything more than this from the other side, though it's always nice to get some insight/warnings on significant language or cultural customs that differ from my typical western ones before I go out and potential offend someone.
I also value the increased faith in humanity and trust that positive CS community interactions can bring.
Being given keys to someone else's home is an honour!
O Que Posso Compartilhar com Anfitriões
I can cook pretty ok off-cuff if you've got random food stuffs and spices on hand, lend a hand with creative hair coloring, help with wardrobe/style woes, trouble shoot interior design challenges, as well as build stuff - if time allows.
If you have a task in mind that you'd like a hand with, please allow me the opportunity to extend my stay beyond my initial plans &/or order supplies in advance that might be needed, so that both of our goals can be met. :)
