About Me

Hello all!

I'm Sonam, and I'm a master's student studying international security at Sciences Po in Paris. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, but both of my parents are from India. I'm new to Paris and so excited to be here!! Unfortunately, my landlord doesn't allow overnight guests, but I would love to meet up with other travelers to explore this beautiful city :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting new people and hearing about their lives and experiences! As I said before, I'm very interested in cultures and languages, and I think Couchsurfing is one of the best ways to learn about them.

Interests

Ahh this is a difficult question. I'm a very curious person, and I'm interested in lots of different things. Here are a few:

-Reading. I really enjoy reading classics, but I have nothing against a nice beach read.
-Music. I love all kinds of music from country to classical to hip hop to opera. I unfortunately lack any musical talent, so I'm an appreciator.
-Movies, all kinds. Horror and rom coms are either a hit or a miss, but I'm not fundamentally opposed to watching them.
-Art. Like music, I'm an art appreciator, not a maker.

Music, Movies, and Books

This is impossible for me to answer... There are just too many that I love! For music, I honestly cannot pick. The first artists/bands/composers that come to mind are: Jukebox the Ghost, Regina Spektor, The Lumineers, A Tribe Called Quest, Beethoven, and Verdi. My two favorite movies are The Dark Knight and Fight Club. I'm also super mature and absolutely love Disney movies. In terms of books, I love so many different ones. At the time of writing, I would say my top five are (in no particular order): Pride and Prejudice, The Poisonwood Bible, Ella Enchanted, Franny and Zooey, and The Giver.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

While conducting a field study in Jordan, my classmates and I spent a night in Wadi Rum, the largest desert in Jordan. I was too energized to sleep, so I climbed a small mountain near our campsite and saw the full moon and stars over the desert. The time I had alone under that night sky was one of the most spiritual and awe-inspiring moments of my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I can't think of any amazing talents, but I do love to cook and bake! My parents are Indian, and I would be happy to teach you how to make some of my favorite dishes.

Learn: I love to learn, and I am open to learning anything! I am passionate about languages, and I would love to learn even a few words and phrases. As I mentioned above, I love to cook and bake; I would be very excited to learn how to cook something new!

Share: As a student on a limited budget, I cannot offer anything particularly extravagant. However, I am more than happy to share anything I have! One of the main reasons I am on CS is to meet people and hear about their lives, experiences, and beliefs; I would be happy to return the favor.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As mentioned above, I have a rather limited budget; however, I would be happy to share anything I have. If there is anything in particular you want, please let me know and I can see what I can do! I can share my cooking and baking, as well as stories and good (I hope!) conversation.
