About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Proceeding with my PhD, learning coding and French on the side. Discover new music and don't forget to socialize on the way.
ABOUT ME
My name is Lukas, I'm currently 27 years old but that might be obsolete at the time that you read it because I hardly update my profile. I work as a junior researcher in cognitive neuroscience at the UKE Hamburg and am on my way to earn my PhD. So psychology/neuroscience/how humans work is what really interests me. While doing that I found out that I'm really into programming and am now using lots of Python but also try to learn Java to be able to code apps and hopefully much more. I'm a rational person and I value rationality in others as well but try to also learn from people that approach life differently than I do.
A few years ago I quit smoking and since then have become addicted to working out as a replacement. Still an addiction but oh well... Had my first Yoga class yesterday, that was also really good.
Besides, I enjoy playing the guitar and also listening to and finding new music, so if you have good recommendations, I'm happy to listen to it.
PHILOSOPHY
Individual liberty is the way to go. In my opinion people have a certain degree of freedom now in Germany that lets them no longer feel like it's such an important thing. So everyone is willing to sacrifice individual freedom (at least of others) for the greater good or something else. And I think that's dangerous.
In terms of epistemology and all that Jazz, I used to think a lot about that but then found out that it's not good for my mental well-being and decided to just accept that I don't know. I think there is a truth and rationality is a good way to find it. Not just in making rational decisions but also in how the brain perceives, predictive coding, Free energy principle, to name a few buzzword.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Until now I hosted a few people in my flatshare in Nürnberg, back when I still lived there. That was using the profile of a roommate though, so you won't see it in my history.
I really just reactivated my profile and hope to host people who are willing to sleep on an air matress in the kitchen (because unfortunately I can't offer much more than that. Flats are expensive in Hamburg...). Also I want to see a few cities in France beginning of 2019 and hope to meet people there and maybe find a place to sleep.

Music, Movies, and Books
Some authors I enjoyed: Ernest Hemingway, Jules Verne, Erich Kästner, Max Goldt, Franz Kafka, Dostojewski, Ayn Rand and of course a lot of others.
I´m really everything else than an expert for films, though I like watching films, nonetheless.
Musicwise I made a lot of wild turns but what I keep coming back to are bands whos music can be described as Emo/Indie/Pop-Punk
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I claim to have made plastic bottle beer (Maternus from Aldi) popular in Magdeburg, Germany. An idea born out of necessity and a success story at the same time.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you some guitar and maybe Matlab or Python if you're interested. Also, workout and diet tips. If you come on a friday I can take you to the gym for free!
Also statistics, but usually nobody's interested in that... :D
Would love to learn new programming and other languages, here about your ambitions and if you're good at cooking or know a good recipe, I'm down to learn that from you.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Basically the same as above. I can also talk a bit about fundamental principles of how the brain works, but honestly I'm not sure how in-depth I understood it. Or anyone else, for that matter.
