About Me

Travel-wise, I like to avoid busy places, I'd rather wander somewhere quiet and strike up a conversation with a local in a dingy bar. Shockingly, this has only led to being robbed once (Cuba, 2005).

I love cycling and cycle touring, and after bimbling around the UK and bits of Europe with nothing but a sleeping bag and a tarpaulin for months at a time I'm absolutely hooked.

'Treat other people as you want to be treated.', 'Try and leave everything just a little bit better than it was'

Sorry if I end up just hitting the auto 'no' button on your request, or replying with a really short note but unfortunately, living in Central London, I get anything up to 20 CS requests a day and it's just impossible to reply properly to them all. Please don't be offended!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I made this profile in preparation for my cycle tour of America in 2013 (which became a cycle tour of Sweden and Denmark due to work getting in the way).

Now I use it because London is prohibitively expensive for loads of travellers and plenty of foreigners on my travels have been incredibly kind to me, so I'm paying it forward.

Interests

I love people and I love stories. As a professional photographer I'm mostly attracted to documentary work.

Music, Movies, and Books

Terrible Pratchett geek, forever listening to Queen, Bowie, The Kinks and a flurry of new music from my music journo girlfriend.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Positively: Almost every second of cycling across Dartmoor was absolutely stunningly beautiful. Sitting on the Malecon in Havana with a girl and the greatest ice cream in the world was on par.

Negatively: Spending time with Sri Lankan politicians after the Tsunami. One of the most depressing and eye opening experiences of the caste system at work and horrendous 'miss-management of funds'.

Teach, Learn, Share

My grass whistling skills are unparalleled and with my 'survival' experience I'm not a bad person to have around incase of a zombie apocalypse. Aside from that I'm pretty good at most DIY, so if you have something that needs fixing while I'm there (provided it's not plumbing or serious electrics...) I'll be more than happy to have a look at it and teach you how to fix it.
