About Me

Aloha!
My name is Sophie and I come from Germany and Indonesia, where my parents met each other.
I study Anthropology, translate Indonesian poetry into German and work at literature and poetry festivals quite often.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to meet new people from different cultures. Basically why everyone is on Cousurfing, right?
At the moment my ability to host is very limited, but that will change after I have done my Master's degree in Leiden (Feb. 2015- Jan. 2016)!!

Interests

reading, writing letters and postcards, traveling, swimming, snorkeling, riding my bike everywhere, hiking, dancing, cooking, eating, museums, poetry & literature festivals, music festivals, sleeping in tents, experimenting with food and different tastes, drinking tea,...

Music, Movies, and Books

"Anna Karenina" (Tolstoi), "The unbearable lightness of being" (Kundera), "Catcher in the Rye" (Salinger), "Great Gatsby" (Fitzgerald), "The Good Earth" (Buck), "Lord Jim", "The Taifun", "Heart of Darkness" (all: Conrad), and many more..
recent favorite movies "La Grande Belezza", "Clockwork Orange", "Shrek 1,2&3", "The Fantastic Mr. Fox", "Grand Hotel Budapest", etc. etc. etc.
Naming bands and songs seems a little exhausting (generally it goes into the direction of Indie, Rap and Hip Hop).
